The Canal gathering?
« on: Mar 09, 2009, 10:08 AM »
Hey guys I wanted to put the idea out here when everyone is still on the site. I was wondering if we wanted to get a gathering down at the Canal in June for some stripers? I know it might be a long ride for you guys in western Ma but we could get there early in the am and fish into the night. Just wanted to see if there was any interest in doing this?

there are two cool campgrounds on the canal  if any one is interested.  bourne scenic park centrally located and  scusset beach reservation (for some surf fishing as well).

After seeing some of those striper pics you posted earlier this year, I would be very interested, but dont know anything about the area of the canal. If you could pm me any info about it, that would be great,  havent been out after big stripers in a few seasons now.  and great pike this weekend by the way.

I've got some extra gear too.  Should we give them a lesson on conventional casting?

another campground just over the canal up on the east end is shawme-crowell state forest, with in minutes of the canal with easy parking and a very good area named the coal yard with the right current, when the canal is rising this is a good area to chunk thru out the day and to cast at rising stripers at daybreak.

There are no fish in the canal, just joking of course.
I found this helpful link , It's  a lot like the shanty link.
good info, Striper fishing has to be one of the best fishing experiences of all,
I have been a big striper fisherman for many years, nothing beats it.
tend to go North and fish rockport/gloucester from shore. cheap bait up north on the docks in gloucester, but this year I am going to be fishing more down the cape.

John, love to give it a try if the date is right.   Pick a date.  I know I can't make the 20th of June because of a commitment to Mass Wildlife Instruction.  Hope it works out, should be fun.
