Hello everyone,

We recently purchased an ice shack and have been on the hunt to find a good location to park it on Last Mountain for the winter, but so far have had little luck. I'm wondering if someone could point us in a good direction/depth? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

Hi Jiffy,

I think you have a lot of options that could be narrowed down by letting folks know what species you are targeting. You will find shanty villages up and down the lake near any of the beaches mentioned on this forum. Which side or end are you hoping to access the lake from?

Hi Speckspotter,

Ideally we will be targeting walleye, but are just after a good consistent bite. Either side of the lake works as we will be heading out from Lumsden.

Thanks for the reply!

I live around Dundurn, so probably your best advice will come from folks out your way. Plus I am fishing on crutches this winter, so I'm keeping pretty close to home and giving Blackstrap a good workout. My surgeon would not approve of me trying to run a auger or digging out of snowdrifts.

Good luck!

Anglerbrian   did you buy a permit to use the access or is that just for launching a boat?
The permit is for access all year not just for boat launch. Check out the Canyon Beach Resort page on Facebook. There is an email to contact to get a permit.

Last Mountain up at Rowan's Ravine - Jan 10th.

18.0" to 18.5" of ice all around.  Solid ice in all the places we fished - out from boat launch near beach and further south on the east side of the lake.  A few minor heaves, but nothing serious along that path.

..half a dozen Tulibees  and a couple of 5 lb Pike.  Mostly good from ~9:30 to noon and very slow after that.

Fished Pelican Point for a few hours in 22', after lunch...mustered one small walleye.  Pretty dead on the flasher too.

Is there a pressure ridge over pelican pointe this year?

Yesterday I fished South of Triple T 50 yards short of the Ice Heave.  I was in 38 FOW and Fishing was decent.
Went Home with 12 Perch and 2 Walleye.
I have never seen so many people in that area in the middle of the week.  Must be lots of retirees like myself or Farmers and shift workers.
Now that the weather is nice again I hope to get out  on the weekend.
Old fishermen never die, they just smell that way.

Yes this working all week is getting old! I've only been out twice this winter as the weekends are always hit and miss. Gotta call in sick one of these weeks!!!  ::)

I always thought that to be a successful ice fisherman, you needed to be fully retired or have 90% of your professional ambition surgically removed.

As we get closer to Burbot time, can anyone report what access and driving conditions are like at Etter's Beach?

decent amount of jumbos with a few walleye and tulibee mixed in at triple t this past weekend, access was fine, ice was fine, drove across the lake, up and down the lake, fished about 20 different spots

Has anyone driven on at Rowan's recently?  Is the ice still at least 18 inches?

I'm collecting water samples for the uofr next week about 500m west of the boat launch.  I'm planning to drive on if the ice is still good.

Thanks!

Anyone know what it's like getting on at Regina Beach? Is the ice ok to drive on still or been affected by the weather recently? How's the bite been?

I don’t know about everyone else but I’m sure finding it slow at Collingwood. Lots on the camera. They come and take a look but will not bite.
Any luck anywhere else?
And where is the master angler Brian? Haven’t heard from you for a while buddy.

Nice Walleye.  Any chance anyone can tell me the water level or where I can find it?  Heading up in June from Spokane Washington and water has been dropping with less area to fish.  Big arm produced only a few pike  in 2019.

Thanks,

Packernut

Water level won’t be any higher than what it was in June 2019. We have very little snow fall this winter so there won’t be much run off this spring unless we get a bunch of snow in March. Lots of great spring spots to fish, I def wouldn’t go to Big Arm. Just have to make some miles. The fingers in the North end can be very good and also some great spots by wee too in the spring
