!0" augers legal in NH?
« on: Jan 17, 2013, 04:58 PM »
I was thinking there is a limit somewhere.....the ol' man just called to ask if $125 was a good deal on a 3 y.o. Strikemaster 10", and I wondered if there is a hole size limit? He's calling back in an hour...I wanted to get as much info as I could before he does.

Looking at the "new" prices, and that it comes with tip ups too, he may have stumbled on to a good deal.
Thinkin 'bout cusk on the grill......

Im not aware of any limitations on hole sizes. But that doesnt mean there isnt any. Maybe a good question for a CO or the supervisor?

Don't know for sure. Did a search of online rule book and couldn't find any regulations. Used one plenty if times at derby with COs all around and no problems...besides, stores wouldn't sell them if they were illegal, right... :)

Thanks for the input, guys. Rando, I was just trying to do this quickly, as the ol' man is going to call me back to see what info I've gathered. It's a "buy now or lose it" thing. If I had more time, I would call law enforcement. That's a good point!

I wasn't sure they actually sell them here, Stompa. This is a private sale. I buy all my stuff used, so I don't look at new stuff.  ;)

They have them at the store I go to for bait...I don't buy too much new stuff either (other than bait...maybe I should try used bait too!!!)

Hope not I've been using a 10" for years. Had plenty of CO's at my fishing sights and none of them said any thing about it so I'm guessing its legal.
If I'm not fishing then I'm not happy

Ten inches here...
when chuck norris played golf for money, chuck marked down a hole in zero every time, the golf pro said, "chuck: you can't score zero on a hole." Chuck norris turned towards the man and said, "I'm chuck norris, the man proceeded to pour gas over his body and set himself on fire because that would be less painful than getting roundhouse kicked by chuck norris....chuck norris roundhouse kicked him in the face anyways

You're good to go. If they do make a regulation against 10" augers, you can get a smaller bit for it.

Is this a prime example of what one could expect to hear on 5.5 on Newfound?  ;D

Okay then, that brings me to another question you may know the answer to.

Some guys were out checking smelt traps near where I was fishing. They decided one wasn't productive, so they moved it AND the branch marker that was there. The hole was about 18"x 2 1/2 ft. I thought they should leave the marker.....was it illegal for them to do so?

I would say it is....if not from a legal perspective, certainly not very ethical or mindful of other fisherman/people on the Lake.

Probably used the branch to mark hole so they knew where their trap was.

if it wasn't true it wouldn't even be funny...all they need is a foot in the door or some dope tree hugger  to break a leg.. it will be all over the 6:00 news and the revolt begins.... 10's are legal.. and as others have pointed out, you can buy a smaller flighting... go for it.
