Any body ever fish Lake Clear??
« on: Jan 04, 2024, 09:08 AM »
Anybody ever fish this? Yes I know someone has in some point of human history.  A quick look at the DEC website says it has landlocked, pike, perch, smelt and sunfish.  Not looking to burn spots.  Just have a baby shower up that way way end of Jan beginning of Feb. want to avoid the actual shower and plan on fishing with the boys while the women do their thing.   Want to have an idea on what gear to bring.   Who am I kidding I will probably bring it all anyways lol.

Thanks in advance guys!  ;D

Hey Bunny
Lot of Clear Lake / Lake Clear's in NYS
If your talking about the one up outside of Saranac FYI its a big sand bottom bowl.  Structure is non-existent.  The inlet by the parking lot/beach is as good as any spot for fishing the lake and an easy walk.
When the going gets weird the weird turn pro.

I fished it extensively in college, I don’t know if there was a lake that I fished more than Lake Clear. I was almost always able to to get smelt Right out from the public access area in around 30 feet of water.

If you get some smelt, put them on Tip ups. I had caught some decent lake trout and some really nice like there. I caught a handful of lakers jigging as well.

I fished it quite a bit 20 years ago before I moved back to PA. I still try to get back up that way at least once every winter. Lots of perch but not very big. Have seen some nice pike caught and I have caught salmon on tip ups on occasion. I never tried for smelt there but know guys do get them there. I've done well for smelt at Kushaqua.

That pamphlet sounds like what is now Heart Lake, as it accesses all of those hiking trails from the Adirondack Loj trailhead
