New ice tent
« on: Nov 08, 2012, 07:31 AM »
I am looking for a good 4-6 man ice tent so when I take the kids and my dad out I can keep them warm. Do you guys have any good recommendations? I have leaning towards the clam bigfoot 8*8? I have a two man Frabil hard bottom that is to small. Thanks for your help

Definately wont fit all of you in the frabil hard bottom, you know imo there are alot of pop-ups coming out and i have always liked the eskimo quick fish line and there ice spikes are hands down the best. I own a QF3 myself which only works for 2 people with 2 poles each, fish finder and maybe a camera. Which is why me, fishonone and another buddy are going in on a bigfoot our selfs. We're going with the XL6000 which should give us plenty of room and some. I think depending how many poles you want to have down you would do good with a 4000, six pack 1550 mag or a quick fish 949. The shack section has alot of good feed back and ideas, just dont get stuck in there for hours like i do drooling over all the permys  you might have to go back a few pages to find pop-up threads but they're there

I really like the new design on the 1550 and 1660 mags but with the fishable area being the biggest of all the pop-ups on the XL6000 we all voted for that one.

Where ever gets ice 1st and if the weather warants it. Much rather be outside. The main reason we are gettin it is for nite trips for crappie at pineview and burbot at the gorge. I'm really diggin this weather today  ;D

Depends on the species and what time of year, this time of year im looking for crappie and perch mainly. Using smaller jigs that are heavy enough to get down to them on 4-6lb line. Baiting with waxies and crappie niblets. Once i find some schools that look like they might have some size to them ill mark em and try to stay on top of them. Can be quite difficuilt if its windy. The upside is usually they dont move to far and once the ice gets safe ill check alot of the spots i've been hittin in the boat. Not always 100% fish on but its a start. Lots of fish schooling up in the narrows right now

I'd get either the Fatfish or Quickfish from Eskimo.  Eskimo has top quality stuff with good prices.  If you check around you can get a good deal on them.

I have an Eskimo quickfish6 and it has quite a bit of room in it.  I mostly take a 6x6 pop-up from cabalas for my kids to sit in to warm up.  It is warmer due to the black heavier material it is made out of.  Both do well with a little buddy heater on really cold and windy days.

I think you made a good choice.  Clam makes some top quality houses.  I have the command post and my brother just got the 8 person six-pack.  Tons of room in either one.... only complaint was that the zipper pulls on the new ones are plastic... dumb to use plastic on anything that is supposed to be used in the cold.

Dont blame you there, but i would suggest the ones out from the boat ramp. One has a frozen perch head in it
