Drive-by... Deer Creek, Jordanelle, other
« on: Dec 17, 2011, 06:51 PM »
Family and I went to Park City today to escape the "inversion" for a while...

* Deer Creek Reservoir - wide open, end-to-end, and shore-to-shore... we didn't see the slightest hint of ice, shore ice, skim ice, slush... NOTHING.

* Jordanelle Reservoir - looked the same... wide open, nothing starting on the shorelines... there appeared to be some "whiteness" at the very far end of that eastern-reaching arm.

* Little Dell Reservoir - iced-over with a dusting of snow on the top... nobody fishing, and no signs of footprints in the snow (I'm not even sure if ice-fishing is allowed there).

Looks like I'll pack it in tomorrow... maybe finish my Christmas shopping.  :-\

We have a friend in town this week and decided to hit Park City today, which gave me another chance to drive by these two reservoirs again;

*Jordanelle - Still wide open... no signs of ice at all.

*Deer Creek - Not a whole lot better... some skim ice in the marshy areas near the Provo River inlet, and also an "ice bridge" that has formed between the main shoreline and that large island (Rainbow Bay?). Other than that... wide open.

I'm hoping to get a shot at jigging for those Deer Creek walleye... but giant browns sounds nice too!

Overnight temp's in single digits for Heber City last 2 nights... a few more in the low teens on the way too... maybe DC will ice up yet!

I'm starting to think it's not going to happen at Deer Creek this year. I hope something changes. I've had some good days there, and enjoy hitting it a couple times each year. Hopefully the weather changes and proves me wrong.

Read scattered reports on BFT.com that the ice is shaping up nicely on Deer Creek Reservoir... might get some time on the deck there yet!

There was even a report of one brave (crazy) angler spotted on the ice earlier this week.

I knew this would happen as soon as I got the fly rod out.  ;D

Update: We now have a first hand report on BFT.com from a guy that fished the Wellsburg Arm at DCR on ~4" of "not so great" ice.  :tipup:

Not yet... the rig's ready to roll (and the fly rod too just in case).
