Omaha ice. Will it turn bad
« on: Jan 21, 2018, 11:19 AM »
I hope it gets cold again.   Am concerned about ice turning bad.  Anyone been out the last couple of days to check ice.  Thanks for reports in advance

It'll take a lot more than a day over freezing to ruin 12+ inches of ice.

This kind of weather will certainly re-expose some spots on certain lakes that are usually bad in normal years but have been fishable this year because of below-average cold.  Sustained warm temperatures will also take the strength out of a decent amount of the thickness of the ice.  We never really leave "no ice is safe ice" conditions.  I'm not out there today (Sunday) due to rain, but I'd go out later in the week with my spud bar and safety gear, just like normal.  The past 2 weeks, though, I wouldn't have believed it if my spud bar was making the "weak ice, turn around" noise.  Now I'll listen a little closer...
