my folks and their deer
« on: Nov 26, 2007, 07:25 AM »
My folks just got back from Canada before the storm hit last night.  They both shot 2 deer each.  My mom shot a big 4 that weighed 150 (biggest buck for the camp out of 10 or so people) and a small 6 that went 120.  She shot both deer with a 7mm/08 Encore.  The 4 was taken at 264 yards with 1 shot and the 6 was at 50-75 yards, also with 1 shot.

My father's deer were 110lb spike and a 126lb 6pt. Both deer were taken with a 250-3000 Savage model 1920 at less than 100 yards.

By the way, the 6pt is the only thing my mother has shot at less than 200 yards, that I know of!  She likes the long shots!  In 92 she shot a moose at 250 yards off hand!

Good deal, congrats to them. Those deer look fat. So that's where you get your love for the outdoors from. Great to have both parents into the sport.

Every year I think about hiring my dad to work for me. It would be a big help! But every year he tells me I am crazy for hunting some of the places I do. So when he decides to conform, he might have a job.  It is pretty bad when your mom out shoots you and shoots bigger deer!

Awesome!  I'm hearin so many good things about those 7mm-08 on Whitetails.  Brad Lewis tried selling me a Ruger Featherweight in 7-08. I'm thinkin I should take him up on that offer.

Sounds like your Mom could outshoot all of us.
Happy eating!

I am thinking the same thing. But I can't shoot the same caliber my mother does, that is just wrong!

I was actually just corrected that the buck went 155 not 150.  That neck is huge!

I'd like to take a moment and thank everyone for their comments and interest in this thread. Having my wife hunt with me is a feeling I can't find words for. You are right about Ben's love for the outdoors being born out of his parent's love for the same. If I could, I would like to challange each of us to introduce at least one person to carry on our sporting heritage. It was nothing less than an honor watching her pull that 265 yard shot off.  I don't post here a whole heck of allot, but I really enjoy each of everyone's  postings.
Times have NOT changed. PEOPLE have!!!
