This is the first time in 8 years that we had to cancel the Gridiron Tournament- and yes, this sucks. Simply, the ice at Wilson's Reservoir isn't safe as there was still open water just two days ago. As much as we love hosting this event, it's just not worth the risk of jeopardizing anyone's health and safety given the poor ice conditions we've been dealt this season. We considered moving the date- that just wasn't possible. We considered moving the location, but unfortunately most larger ponds in NW RI still aren't safe; plus there is a substantial snow load covering some pretty thin ice.
It wasn't an easy decision, but one that had to be made. We hope everyone understands and that we see you next year, or maybe on the ice if we ever get a good cold snap!
