Ice fishing big Mac.
« on: Mar 02, 2019, 10:10 AM »
Thinking of a quick trip to Mac for some ice fishing. eyes or cats would be fun.  Any tips on where to start?  Im guessing some mid-lake points and middle of coves to start. Hang some minnows, jig some blades and kastys.

Id rather ice fish in peace than deal with the madness on the dam when the ice comes off- ;D

Can’t answer your question. Do have a suggestion, post this on the NEFGA.org. More activity than IS. If you know about NEFGA and don’t care to go there never mind.

if youre gonna try to ice fish mac... id try otter creek cove, and admirals.     probably gonna be the safest out of all of the spots there, although its obvious you dgaf about ice safety, lololol.

We have discussed this extensively over the last few years.  Mac does not fish well thru the ice, way too much feed seems to be the consensus.
I logged 12 different hardwater trips on there last year, didnt hardeck a single walleye.  We even got several guides and local heavy hitters out a day last year to spread out, zero walleye.
According to the old timers it never fishes well thru the ice.
I have caught an occasional walleye over the last 15 years, but they are few and far between.
I have fished shallow, deep, transitions, trees, rocks, dam, even at night.
If you figure it out let me know.
