Lowrance Ice Pack and Sonar's Power Button
« on: Feb 21, 2015, 07:40 AM »
My biggest issue with my Elite 5 HDI is sometimes while transporting and moving the bag around the power button gets accidently pressed and the unit turns on.  Thought I would throw this out there and see what cures, other than disconnecting the power cable or installing a battery switch, might be out there.  My thought now is to epoxy a rod building winding check, effectively a washer type thing, around the power button which would provide protection against accidental "On" issues.  Any other solutions out there before I mix up the epoxy.

I also sometimes have that same thing happen. Sounds like you are doing something that may help.

You're supposed to flip the whole thing around for transport and storage. Only takes a couple seconds, protects the screen and prevents it from turning on.

this is what i did to my elite 5 chirp, shortened the cord , added male, female adapters to charger, power cord, battery connection , power cord. Easy to hook up or disconnect. Power cord hooks to my sled so i can use the gps feature on the unit. I have a ram handle bar mount for this unit, solid stabil mount. when i get to where i want to hook up the power it is simle and quick. Very happy with this set up.

Seems like overkill to me. Pull the positive cable and be done with this issue. Only takes a second each way.

Haven't had this happen to me in the four years I used mine. I change the angle and always keep on the top of my gear so when I'm walking out, I can get to previous waypoints I've saved.  Of course the unit is on already... So no help.

I did post a mod adding a toggle switch that was very easy and only took 20 min tops then you won't have to worry about it...  Here's that post http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=313122.0

Its $12 and will keep you from hitting any buttons or accidentally cracking a screen in transport.

Happens to mine as well almost every time as all my "stuff" I need to ice fish seems to grow and gets piled in the sled. Have covers from past units all over the place, never used them also. Pulling one connector before and after fishing sounds right for me. The power button on the Elite series protrudes and it doesn't take much to power it on. Still have an HDS5, X67 and LMS337 ice machine and they NEVER turned on during transport in 15+years, hope Lowrance is monitoring this.
