what size minnows do you guys like for crappies? I was thinking 3 inches or less but I've never used minnows for crappies before
-
I like to use smaller ones. 3" or less. Seems as though if i get them bigger than that the fish wont touch them. Bass will but not crappies.
-
I use fatheads most are smaller than 3in at the bait shop where I buy them.
-
I use fat heads also 1 1/2 to maybe 2 inch
-
Rosie reds under 2in here in Michigan's great sw. Rosie reds are fatheads that are orange with a white belly!!
-
1.5-2" and I use the smallest ones first.
-
thanks for the info guys, hope to catch a personal best crappie this Saturday. Hope to beat the 12 inch mark
-
deadstick small to med fatheads...jig with horizontal plastics that glow...tiny hooks with waxies.
-
I like the small Rosie's too. Small enough that they can't rip it off by the tail and have to inhale it all
-
I find I do better with fatheads than with shiners.
-
Emeralds, when available, are my confidence bait.
-
Smallest I can find .
-
I use pinners about an inch long up to medium that are 3".
Over that and I catch bass or pickerel.
-
rosies are the only way to go
-
I like fatheads in the 1.5-2" range. I always have out at least one dead stick while jigging. Last time I fished a good crappies lake and caught many more small ones than I ever had before. Though I jigged up a few solid 10-11 in fish, I had to think it was cause I was using very small fatheads, the only ones I could get my hands on.
-
under 2" rosie reds are killer up here
-
Rosie reds here too. The smaller the better.
-
I use Rosie red or fatheads. Smaller whole ones but if they get bigger then 2 inches I'll just use the head. Sometimes just the head works better if there not aggressive.
