Perch whereabouts
« on: Dec 27, 2018, 09:41 PM »
Hello everyone! I’m new to Montana ice fishing. I know how to ice fish Minnesota but not out here. Where can a guy find some perch to catch and keep this time of year?

Welcome to Montana! Most of the state has decent perch opportunity. Where do you live?

I have found this pretty helpful when trying to target a certain species.

Delmoe is capped up solid & it's right in your backyard.....No perch tho !!
Clark Canyon Reservoir & Ruby Reservoir are also capped.....Again, no perch !!
If you're deadset on perch, you'll have to head north towards Helena or maybe try Upsata or Nevada Reservoir !!
Good luck to ya & have a safe season !!

Sweet! A buddy and I were just talking about the Nevada Resevior. Is there any specific point to go on there or can you catch just about anywhere on it?

I fished Nevada Creek Res several times last year and never had a problem catching perch but they were always very small. Got one 7 incher  out of 3 trips that was the biggest.

Right from the "MONTANA FISHING REPORTS & CONDITIONS" section !!

I got out yesterday too! Measured 11"-14" out from the lower parking area. Lots of interest in my jigs but no commitments.  I'm guessing perch, they were right on the bottom in about 22fow, would come in hard, lots of them, but no one was buying what I selling. Still great to be out. Probably head back tomorrow morning.
Fished for a bit on Dec. 29th, ice is a solid 12 + inches I had the same results as the prior post so I dropped a camera down and was greeted by a school of 3 inch perch, never saw anything bigger then that.  No trout.
I fished that a few times 4-5 years ago. All the perch we caught were dinks then as well.
