Flip over shelter hard wired power mods!
« on: Jan 05, 2017, 12:28 PM »
Just thought I would share some pics of my modifications on my Otter Lodge pro.  I hard mounted a battery box with full control panel.  I have an a few circuits wired, all with independent fuses so if one shorts out my other circuits are still operational.

The first switch is main power with main fuse.
Second switch is overhead fans, fused.
Third switch is overhead LED lights, fused.
Fourth switch is lower LED lights, fused.
Fifth switch is USB port power.
Sixth switch is momentary, and voltage check.

Both lights are hooked up to a wireless dimmer and flasher.  The flashing is great when a buddy is trying to find your house in the dark.  Just turn the lights up to 100%, and hit the mode button and it flashes like a disco....showing him very clearly where you are if the shades are open.

Also it has an external battery charging plug that can charge the internal battery in the unit, be used to power your Flasher if it goes dead, or the unit can be powered by your flasher if the units internal battery goes dead.  Works great with the jumper tabs on a Vexilar Ultra Pack.

Enjoy the photos and if anyone wants help to wire something similar, let me know! (the wiring is a bit messy, but its all cleaned up and routed with the tubes now)

I like what you did there.  I have a similar box setup, but want to do this again in a little larger box.  What size of box did you end up using? What brand?  Will look for it in Amazon.

I like your idea about the flashing LED's.  Before I thought that would be a real distraction until you mentioned to use it to find the house.  Nice Idea!

There is the box.  I have about $30 in all the parts excluding the battery.

Appreciate it.  I like the idea of the wiring harness.  Clean way of hooking up the circuits.

Where did you put the external wiring hookup for charging?  Do you just open the panel and connect the leads, or do you have another plug not shown?

There is an SAE (battery tender) plug underneath the box that I can pull out.  Its all sealed up so I don't have to worry about water.

I found the box from your link on amazon, could you link some of the other items, like the switches and the overhead fans? Overhead fans is a great idea...
thanks-

I like the led lights, they look like 12 volt led dump truck reverse backup lights, never thought of that we have some at work.

What more do you want?  Lol. You can see the whole set up.

When you make them make sure to fuse the main to avoid fires and fuse your secondary circuits so a pinched wire on a fan, upper light, or lower light does not take out your entire unit.  Keep spare fuses taped inside your box.

looks really good, I made a portable power box from the other thread but I like this better.

I would like to put LED lights on the outside of the sled when you are pulling out at night

How big is the main fuse and the secondary fuses? Same switch for all of them?

Main fuse is 10 amp.  Leds are 2 amp and fans are 1 amp.  All the same switches except for voltage, that's a momentary so I am not burning juice all the time.  The voltage gauge and USB charging ports are unfused since the wiring is contained in the control box but the main fuse is there if something goes crazy.

Just showed this to my better half/wife and told her I'm building this and ordered everything on Amazon.   She asked me when I'm going to finish the kitchen and put the doors on all the cupboards.     SPRING baby!!!!
