Last years derby had around 130 kids entered and was a lot of fun.

Very nice deal for the valley Preed!  I think it's fantastic that the kids have a tourney they can get excited about...  That was always an exciting time for me as a kid and can just imagine lots of youngens getting amped up for this one.

This will be our first "Gettin Jiggy" derby.  We're looking forward to it very much!  Once upon a time I was a kid (I think, been so long, might've been a dream  )  and I always looked forward to getting out on the ice.  I was fortunate enough to have folks and relatives that passed on their knowledge and passion for fishing, hard and soft water, and I've been "hooked" since I was a toddler.  Teaching the next generations the art and science, and appreciation for the outdoors will help preserve it for the enjoyment of generations to come.  See Ya There!

if its anything close to last year its gonna be a blast! but its not gonna be... its gonna be even better! this is my 3rd Gettin Jiggy and its doubled in size each year. There is so much good that comes out of it from being a family event to helping children right here in Alaska.

what i could use help with is...

Last year everything went great other than we had to have the awards ceremony in the bar area and there was a lot of smoke where the children were. This year we are trying to find someone to donate a tent so that we can have the room needed outside the bar and be healthier for the children. What I am asking for is if anyone has or knows someone who can help that could donate a tent for this event? We are looking at needing a 20x 40 tent. All donations are tax deductable and all proceeds from this event is going to the local chapter of “Make a Wish foundation”.

Awards party will be held on the lake in a 20X60 smoke free wall tent!!!

Read some reports and it sounds like they raised close to $5K for "make a wish"

I did not get a chance to go, just wanted to thnak Paul and all the sponsors for putting on the event.

thanks all.
i couldnt have gotten better weather if i could control it myself. there are lots of positives about doing it but i realized this year how everybody on the lake was helping each other, everybody was neighbor friendly. kinda like one big family. it was really neat. hopefully next year you guys from up north might journy on down for a day.


The overall winner Saturday was Travis Recer, 9, with a 22-inch trout. Second place was Jordan Kofoad, 11, with a 21-inch trout and third place was 12-year-old Blake Umhauers 20.5-inch trout.
