Kills me to say this, but harvested. She must have hit her head on the bottom of the ice or something, as I spent 5 minutes trying to get her back down the hole. I can count on one hand how many crappie I've harvested from this lake in my life and its usually because of gut hook/bled out etc. I am all for c&r , especially good genetics in a time when this lake is suffering.  None of this fish will go to waste.

Crappie were enjoying some minnows finally yesterday after we waited for the bait truck to show up at O'Donnells.  Size of crappie were better yesterday even though my biggest was still caught on micro plastic.  Ice was not getting too sloppy was getting colder near the lake so might firm up.  I'd like to get on there New Years Eve but only time will tell.  Enjoy it while you guys can, might be a week or two after this warm spell?!?

Ice still around 5+ inches.

Be safe folks!

Damn I never thought to use a depth gauge😎
I put that same dam depth gauge down about a dozen holes today and they wanted nothing but minnows! ;D

Saw a beautiful pike come out of Muddy Creek for a few pics and back down she went. Just under 35” but with major girth. Her sides touched the entire hole when she came out! Congrats if your on here! It’s been a great year for the 2 days of fishing I got to do. Lol! Overnight low of 43 with tons of water blowing in the wind on top isn’t good. Shorelines are softening and anywhere there’s a stream or spring near will be thin ice. Be safe if your getting another day out of it.

Beutiful crappy Mr James..
I like to revisit old areas that didn't turn out good the year before..some how the fish seem to comeback again..one year an area is dead then the next you get lucky..

Hell, if there is only a 2-3 week wait after the last day of this warmup that would be great!! But unfortunately I have a feeling we won't be back out until Febraury. Hope I'm wrong

The only thing that sucks
When you drill a hole and that nasty scum water is floating everywhere.

Most of the east side is the lake is.  I couldn't tell about the main lake because there was so much fog, but I believe it's capped as well.  We need cold...

Still capped is a great sign.  HOLD.  Need some cold now.  Start thinking winter now.

stylish boots, but if not the "mickey mouse" or muck artic boot style you could be in wet feet mode? ive found in the 45 years ive been ice fishing the sorel type boots will leak if you fish in slush or standing water.its been slush for years now not like the bogger freezin days of the past,i wish you well

I wear Norfin boots which are made for ice fishing and are excellent.  I was never able to find surplus Mickeys in my size and I was in the army long after they stopped issuing them.  If you found them in your size I'd say you're in luck!  Then again my Norfins weigh ounces and the Mickeys are like cinder blocks so I guess there are some trade offs...
