Hey, fellow Indiana ice freaks. Glad to see i'm not the only one going nuts waiting on the ice. Today's really got me fired-up 4 degrees right now with -5 wind chill. I'll be heading north this weekend for sure. My home county is Huntington but the entire northeastern part of the state is game. FISH ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Hoosier's went out on my pond yesterday had 4" & last night got down to a chilly 2 degrees. So I'll be giving a fishing report soon.

I've never fished clare on hard water, it's very deep with natural springs on the bottom. The springs seem to keep it from getting solid ice or it will have dangerous pockets throughout.

Jigginstick are ya talking about harmony ridge on the Salamonie? Last year DNR imposed a size limit on gills; not sure about the size; but it should be good this year. I know alot of guys swore by it a couple of years ago.

I'll bet he's talking about Simpson, actual name Wak Shin Ga, probably not spelled right but you get the idea.

The one just south of Huntington res. I'm thinking about going back and check it out in the morning after work. If it has ice and Rico finds out he'll be itching to get on there.

I am from Huntington also. As far as the Clare lake thing goes. I drive by it going to work every day. I have never seen anyone ice fish it. I have heard of people ice fishing it, but I wouldn't. As of 6 this morning it was still steaming..no ice on it at all.

thanks for the info guys, I just fished it for the first time this last summer, but I didn't know much about it.where do you guys go to fish? I fish private ponds mostly.

Fire831, you're probably wright about Simpson. Fished it hard last year around the island; did very well. Most are gills 8" to 10"; big hoggers. I also work nights maybe I'll see ya there tomorrow. If I can keep my butt up. If not I'll see ya there Sunday. Let me know.

Born again Hard Water Head here. Just stumpled upon the Shanty, and am I glad I did.......I haven't fished period for about 10 years, up until last fall, then it's like my sixth sense<gills, maybe> kicked back in now I can't get enuff. Luckily I have a wonderful understanding wife( most of the time she lets me get my line wet in one way or another:p) Well I'm just mumbling now with visions of my jig gettin swallowed.

Heading down to Maxi Friday and I can't wait.......

Haven't been to Simpson yet, just been on a couple of local ponds. I would say simpson should be close, but this snow we are supposed to get might change things.

fished simpson yesterday. about 3 inches of ice. the fish were hard to find but did manage to catch a few keepers. had them show up on the vex but they were a tough bite. the ones i caught were close to the island in 11 ft. the solunar tables said the big bite would be around 4:30. they started hitting around 4. making ice when i left.

Thanks for the info Casey. I have to work tomorrow and Saturday, but ya can bet your a** I'll be there Sunday. Hope the snow doesn't screw us. Let me know if your going out Sunday; maybe we can hook-up on the ice and tell some lies. That's what it's all about; fish on and be safe.

planning on fishing saturday and probably sunday. depends on the snow. Rosey i'll let you know if i'm going to simpson sunday. lot depends on the county snow plows. just hope the snow didn't sink the ice. pretty messy up there last year with all that slush. don't need that this year.
