Archangel rod
« on: Nov 26, 2019, 05:59 PM »
Ok, I'm a sicker for new gear. I'm also a sucker for 13 fishing. My question is on the action of the new archangel rod by 13 fishing. The description says it's light - mag action. Guess what I'm asking is what weight jig or spoon would this rod be suited for, and has anyone seen this rod in person. Thanks in advance.

I seen one today. I didn't take it out to feel it. I compared to the 27ul tickle, the way the tip bounced like medium. Jig size, don't know lol I asked what's mag mean? He didn't know lol

Do people really care about a real seat? I actually could go either way on them.

Like the concept of the rod overall . Appalled at the price. Thank God they don't make in a 42 inch and tempt my dumb butt.

I hate reel seats myself. Use castration bands on all my tennesse handles.

Overall I like Fish 13 out of the box thinking. Probably the only one in the world that liked the tear drop reel. Their pricing structure for imported goods. Just leaves me lukewarm about them overall.

I have and use quite a bit of their products. All I have purchased at deep discounts from closing sales.

Been wanting to see one of these rods in person. They seem like a neat idea. Reel seat would go against the idea of the rod design imo, they are also almost always unnecessary anyways

I do... I target big fish and a reel that flops around is irritating. I don't care how many bands you use or how much tape you put on there, the real is going to move and it feels like junk. But that's jmo.

It ain't no tickle stick... it's more like a jigging stick about mediums power maybe medium light.  It's too bad there's no reel seat fused to the rod.  It's a tough sell.

I've held and played with one.  The "Mag Light" is what I'd call light or medium light.  It's neat looking, but I'd never pay even close to that much.

mag means one step up from whatever power they're stating it is....its bass fishing lingo cause 13 fishing is ran by bass fishermen. mag light means medium light

I have # 1033 of 1500 ArchAngel with a blackbetty on it. Use it mostly for panfish with small jigs but have ran a frostbite tantrum rattle bait on it, the small one, and it did fine. nice sensitivity at the tip and landed a 1.5lb 17" trout on it just fine.

Such a sweet looking rod.  I saw it in a YouTube video and immediately googled it to try and find it.  A bit pricey for my taste but she is beautiful.

Ive got a few top dollar steelhead/salmon and centerpin rods but wont pay over 35$ on any ice rod.Theres no casting or retrieving baits and just a plain old ht ice blue is good enough to pull a panfish up thru a hole in the ice.could build a custom rod yourself for cheaper than that anyways.jmo

Anyone interested in this rod should keep in mind that it is more of a "feel the bite" rod than a "see the bite" rod.

Opened one up at scheels today. It was the Mag light. Way to stiff for panfish IMO. Looked and “felt” like a good idea, but I think the material used to make the rod is to stiff to make a nice panfish rod. I understand it is a feel rod.....but it felt more like a nice ML walleye rod. At $150 way to expensive IMO.....Should be about a $60-$75 rod.

Anybody remember when Cabelas made an open water rod exactly like this? Had hated it and gave it away. Looks like another gimmick to me.

I’d agree. It was light weight but from other aspects, it seemed like it was lacking. It might be a concept that gets improved on.

Thanks for all the replies, but due to the lack of ice in central pa there is no way I'm buying anything with that kinda price tag this year! Surely if I do there will be no ice!!!

GanderOutdoors has the Archangel on sale for about $85 right now.  At that price it worth it to someone.
