Maybe some ice on Deerfield by December???
« on: Nov 21, 2006, 09:41 PM »
I was talking to a guy that lives up around Deerfield over the weekend.  He said they are starting to get some ice.  Nothing safe yet but it's good news.  Weather.com forcast for Deerfield looks pretty good...Below freezing every night and after Saturday their saying the highs will be below freezing...

Wed, Nov 22:  Sunny 54°/30°
Thu, Nov 23  PM Showers 51°/21°
Fri, Nov 24  Sunny 39°/19°
Sat, Nov 25  Partly Cloudy 39°/15°
Sun, Nov 26  Partly Cloudy 29°/10°
Mon, Nov 27  Few Snow Showers 31°/11°
Tue, Nov 28  Partly Cloudy 31°/15°
Wed, Nov 29  Partly Cloudy 27°/12°
Thu, Nov 30  Partly Cloudy 30°/12°

Obviously the weather is fickle so I'm not going to hold my breath but I'm keeping my fingers crossed...Sure is hard to type this way though.  :D

Sounds like from the 27th on it will really crank the old temps down.

I don't know if you heard about it out there or not, but a deer hunter felll through at Waubay Refuge while trying to walk to an island. He was rescued by two other hunters.

I heard about that on the radio. Maybe you guys have had cooler temps than us west river boys, but no way would I try any ice right now.

I figure it will be somewhere in the last two weeks of December before I will walk on ice around here. That could change though.

I heard about that hunter also.  Glad he was ok.

I thought the same thing last year and waited until the end of December only to find out that guys were fishing Stockade and Deerfield as much as 2 or 3 weeks earlier.  I'm kind of a big guy so I hear ya about the ice but, if the temps keep down I might spend the gas money in about a week or so just to check it out and see how it's coming along.

I would think Deerfield would get iced up pretty soon at the alltitude it is at. I like to fish Waubay Lake over here and it is about 7 miles long and two miles wide. At my age I like to wait until there is enough ice for my 4 wheeler an a lake that big. It is usually after the 1st of the year before I get over there.

I haven't gotten a chance to ask where he was going, but the neighbor had all his gear in the back of his truck Saturday! Makes me wonder if Stockade or Deerfeild might not already have some ice.....

Not enough ice or time... not necessarily in that order.

I had called up to Deerfield Resort last Sunday and they said the inlet was already iced up and Sheridan Lake Marina said they had some skim ice around the edges.  That was before this last week of really cold temps.  Unfortunately I wasn't able to get up there this weekend. :-\

I was on Richmond Lake by Aberdeen yesterday afternoon. The ice was at least 6" where I was and the fishing was lousy. Naturally, about the time we were setting everything up, the wind which was supposed to blow 6 mph, came up and we had a time then. I had my little buddy heater with me and should have Had my sunflower and 11 lb tank. It gets to the point that you just have too much stuff along.
