Can't fish so we might as well talk about it. I use a 36 lb tan braided line with flourocarbon leaders. What do you guys use?

Used to run braided but found it iced up on me too fast while hole jumping....a couple years ago I spooled my summer rods with nanofil and loved it...as winter came around I threw a summer reel on and ice rod and will never go back to anything else.....up here on diefenbaker I run 8-14lb nano and 20lb vanish leaders on everything because you just never know

With so much free time and no ice I respooled all of my tip-ups
I got lucky maybe ,I picked up a half dozen spools of 25# braided nylon from berkley, cheap.
Then tyed on barrel swivels and twenty pound leaders of trilene to a red treble.
I also regreased the stems, sanded and clear coated the boards .
It had been a while ,now they are running like a trout.

80lb or 100lb PowerPro that came off of my muskie reels.  better to use it that way than to just throw it away.

20 lb Woodstock black line. Add a 1/4 ounce egg sinker and a bead. To a good barrel swivel. Then a two to three foot piece of 30 lb power pro green. On which I put a three to five more beads and a Colorado blade. Then anywhere from a size 14 to size 8 treble hook. Several tip ups are put together with different color beads. When one color starts out preforming the others. I switch them all to that color. Helps to have several Beaver dam Tip ups.

I have always used old power pro braid, 30-50#. It freezes instantly so this year i bought some mason 15# to try. I use them for big crappies and bass.

Power pro for a main line, tied to a 40" floro leader. I'm trying that on one of my rods.
Look at me I can walk on water

For Pike I run 30lb Woodstock tip-up braid in red. Very easy to see and fish don't mind the color! I tie the Woodstock to a barrel swivel and run a 2 foot 17lb flourocarbon leader off of that.  For smaller fish I have 15lb Woodstock and an 8lb leader.

30 lb tan mason line I believe, barrel swivel, 12 ft leader of 12lb test berkley vanish transition (the gold shows up nice in the snow) , then a pline swivel, and  4lb seagur. Im a bow guy this set up works well for me. For all other species of  fish I use 8lb mono as a leader on 30lb woodstock.

30lb braided tip-up line, 25# fluoro (pre-tied by Frabill).  Have 30# Offshore leader material as well, but for .99 cents, I just grab the Frabill leaders now.

Always used the 36lb green Woodstock stuff on my tipups. Just purchased some 50lb Dacron fly backing type line. Got a couple bulk spools cheap. I like to stay with the lil bit thicker stuff on my pike tipups, it's just a lot nicer in hand when doing battle with large pike, compared to the small diameter stuff... 2-3ft fluoro leaders. 80lb seaguar  for pike, 8-12lb fluoro for my others.

Kind of new to the sport, I bought a HT polar tip up and bought (ebay) 18lb woodstock brand tip up line.  Sounds like I should of got a heavier main line?  Going to be trying a couple different leaders steal and Flourocarbon.  I found some pre tied Flouro rigs on ebay made by Z or something.  I dunno I think I ordered 20lb test for the flouro.  Seems weird that my main line will actually be less lb than the leader but not by much and not sure it really matters?  Will be targeting pike mainly, and probably not giants as I will be fishing heavily over fished lakes mostly.  Should I get heavier main line??? thanks

30 lb braided dacron (Power Pro freezes when out of the hole) with 18 lb. 7 strand homemade wire leaders. 12" long is plenty. Single #4 or #2 Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp treble depending on average size of target. Very seldom hook fish deeply but when it does happen, I cut the hook at the eye and since these hooks are not nickel, they rust out fairly quickly. Never liked red hooks. Substrate hook material seems inferior and not as strong. Probably so the hook can be anodized red. Take two hooks of the same size from the same manufacturer. One regular, one red. Bend one of the hooks on each and see which one bends easier. File off the red and see what color the substrate is. Gold or Bronze.
Don't fall in. Unless it's a big one.
