yes - operators are out. check out the Lake Simcoe Message Board for reports. YouTube usually has some pretty good video reports also. I'm heading up there Sunday
I've never fished Lake Simcoe and we are planning a trip over in March. I want to focus on perch and figured Cooks Bay would be our first stop. Is there ample parking for a truck and trailer? What about bait shops? Access onto the ice?
Spent Sunday on the ice going out from Port Bolster. Ice thickness averaged 12"(10" min/ 20"max) Fished from 21' to 29' FOW. Drilled a lot of holes and covered a lot of distance. Thank you to our friend Taj from Casey's for freely pulling our gear out to the general grounds and dropping it off, saving us from pulling it the entire way, and then mid afternoon - loading up everything on his hut sled and and relocating us out even further. Found a couple quick hot spots that produced but went cold within 20 minutes. Drill baby drill - and we did. First time using a cordless drill with my 8" auger - easy, fast, and quiet. Also it was the first time using my new Clam Kenia Thermo Steath - a big change from the Frabill Trecker Thermo - and I love it - extremely dark inside, warm, and just needed to get use to the smaller fishable area - a head lamp is a must. Came home with only around 20 fished that were worked for but it felt great being on the ice again. 2hrs 45minute trip each way. I'll post my pictures later
