Another dozen fish this morning!  Really fat fish for orman compared to this summer.

Had four inches of solid ice where I was.  Parts of the lake are better some are worse. Weather sure does look good for making ice.

Went to orman again today had 5in of ice.  Three of us had 3 overs and 7 unders and 2 perch.  We all fished at different parts of the day but were all out together for a hour at least together.  All of our fish came if 8 to 11 FOW on a mix of big minnow and small, most fish on tip-ups.

Be Careful with 4wheelers or sleds on Orman.  The game and fish dept. has posted signs about thin ice this year.  water levels fluctuate a lot at orman, so often times the edges become very weak.  I have gone out on days where the ice was solid all the way to shore, upon returning to my vehicle, the water had risen and the ice had moved out several feet away from the shoreline.  with this early ice, it's hard to say what is going to happen, but the edges of orman have always been known to move.

that and theres a couple spots that will stay very thin or open without a decent cold snap. Don't wanna just put a avt/sled or vehicle on then take off across the ice if you are unfamiliar with these spots as well.  :o

This is very true i have seen they are not letting water in which will help and there is some shallow ice out there.  I watched the lake freeze over and it can be very dangerous lake.

Ditto ^^

The ice will be plenty strong for a wheeler or sled as long as they don't have the inlet running. Keep your eyes on flow here:

Yup, Black Hawk Marine has shortcuts to versions of this also on the left hand side of their site, which I find easier to read

Thinking of an afternoon trip over to Orman for a change. Anyone planning on being there? Where's the best place to pick up some minnows if needed?

Bait, the building at the top of the hill right as you turn into the boat ramp side of the lake has a 24/7 bait shop with Silver Shiners, creek chubs and fat heads. If it's after hours it a honor system. I always overpay just for the convenience!

When are you planning to go? This afternoon, of planning for the weekend? That might help you find out if anyone else will be there...

Must have went right by the bait shop. Just pulled in to Gaddens. Light snow and overcast, going to check ice here and do some ice trolling with spoons.

Yup, you drove right be. On the way in, there's the storage units on the top of the hill right at the turn. If you turn in there, the baitshop is on the backside (from the access road) of the storage units.

Good luck! Please let us know how you do and how the ice is.
