10 Year Friendship

Hello fellow Iceshantians!

Its been a while since ive posted on the site. Crazy to think that 10 years ago today I met Allan (Stripernut) though this forum and we have been fishing together ever since. From the ice, to Quabbin, rivers, and the salt across multiple states. Pretty amazing to think we may have never met if not for this forum. Its not every day you meet someone you have so much in common with and likes fishing as much (or more) than you do lol.

Thanks for the kind words, had not realized that it was 10 years... WOW! I am looking forward to many more trips! It is not always easy to try and keep up with me and some of my admittedly crazy ideas... After a trip dragging canoes and kayaks over countless rocks, the following week when I say let's try... You say what time! A good fishing buddy and friend is not an easy thing to find...  especially one that shows up at 4:00 am as planned, who does not whine and b***h all day even if the fish has not been found yet, is quick to help out my father who has been known to b***h and whine himself sometimes, and best of all puts up with my snoring in the vehicle! I have includes a few pics showing the excellent angler you are and have even included one or two where you are smiling!

Would like to know the score after 10 years, how many days each of you out fished the other…

As long as one of us catches fish it is a good trip...

We have never really kept track of who out fished who. I will say we both do really well.

That being said, fishing with Allan has made me 10x the fisherman i was before we started firshing. He has taught me WAY more than I've taught him. From line, to leader, knots, rods, reels, techniques, and technology, we are always changing, adapting, and trying new things..

The funny part is, when we are vertical jigging off the boat, we have to keep telling each other what we are doing. Other wise we both do the same exact things at the same time and often think we have a fish chasing our jig lol.

We are both so focused on the sounder screen, we can't watch what each other are doing!

you are both great people to meet you helped me and mt son and you watched him grow up I thank this site and the people i have met.  Son is living in Tennesse living his dream fishing everyday.  Hope we can get together

Great post. You and I had legendary disagreements in posts and you still went out of your way to help me find my plug bag.  That says a lot about a person.  I finally fished with Allan and learned a thing or two as well.

I have met many great people on here. Friends for life with similar passions. We may not live close to each other but we stay in touch and make sure we are all doing well. Sometimes it's the ice that brings us together.

Great post!  Thanks for sharing your pics, those are some beautiful fish.  Very cool that you guys have found this kinship and enjoy spending time together like this.  Lots of people don't have that in their lives.  You are both very fortunate.

I'm at 8 plus yrs with 2 guys I met on this forum.

All 3 of us have become very close friends, without Ice Shanty, we would of probably never met up and fished.

I've gotten to know a few other people on this site and all have been gracious and shared knowledge with me. This site has absolutely made me a better fisherman and allowed me to form great friendships.

Always a pleasure reading your posts especially your Quabbin trips. You guys are fun to fish with. If you go with either one of these guys leave your auger home. They make enough holes that the ice looks like swiss cheese by the end of the day. It's been a pleasure.

What is the trick to catching smallies through the ice? Is it just luck? I fish places that have them all the time and I've never got one. They're my favorite freshwater fish.

I started getting many more Smallies when I started fishing Horizontal jigs like the Chubby Darter, but finding them is often the hard part. Last season on the Conn River I got 16 in a row in moving water about 8ft deep over a ledge. My favorite lake to get them on we have great luck over a weedy flat that runs 8-10 feet... We have another lake that we get nice smallies in open water all day, but only a few each winter, and I have cut so many holes in that lake... But I WILL FIND THEM!!!
