So I'm looking for a new auger. Going 2 stroke any recommendations?
-
i've been very happy with my Eskimo Z51.. just bought the 10" bit last night... i'm sure I will still be happy with it.
-
All my Eskimo augers have been great. Why it took me so long to just buy the Z71 I will never know. Stingray 33, Mako 43 (my backup now), and the beast Shark Z71. Was a little pricey, but I think I got what I paid for. My buddy has a Z71 as well and they just shred.
-
buddy I fish with has a z71 paired with the 10". its unstoppable even when the ice is super hard it justs mows right through.. that being said the jiffy 33 I use is a dependable little unit, always fires even when its stupid cold.

I went 4 stroke a few years now and would not go back.
PS Shackless a 10 inch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You thinking this is the year you crack the bottle open.

Thought of a four stroke, my auger spends a lot of time bouncing around in the sleigh behind my skidoo. Was concerned about the crankcase oil leaking out if it's laying down the wrong way.

I would also recommend an Eskimo auger, I have a Eskimo Mako 43cc with a 10" auger. This thing will cut great and has no problem with a 12" extension attached drilling through 50" if ice.
I find that I need a rest long before the auger does.
I know it does not have the macho name like a "Z" series but for the difference in price it will do all and more than I ask of it.

Had my z51 for 4 years now. Still starts on 1st or 2nd pull . Seen many out there that don't.
Its a 10 inch and will never go back to 8 inch.

This will be my 5th season using my 51cc Eskimo 10" auger. So far this auger has always started on the 1st or 2nd pull. The only maintenance I've ever had to do was replace the filter and spark plug. Although lately I don't take it out until the ice is 10+" thick. Until then I use my 6" Fin-bore 3. Takes seconds to punch a hole with it.

I have a strikemaster lazer mag with the solo engine in an 8". I have not seen anything that will outdrill it in the three years I've had it, other than a lazer pro, which in 30" of ice beat it by half a second. Nothing even comes close.
-
So nobody. Is using jiffy anymore?? Mine lasted 14 yrs, but looks like Eskimo is the way to go. Now where is the best price?
-
I'd recommend a solo. German engineering at its finest. I've heard good things about the tanaka too.

I have the z71 and it is the best. It mows through the ice like no tomorrow

Find a good used Strikemaster Mag lll. Could probably find a good one for $125 bucks if you look hard enough. I clean mine up every fall and beat up on new eskimos and jiffys all winter. Fairly light too

Even if the guy running the Jiffy is not straight, this vid still show cases the ease of the z71 and the speed. 10 inch too. This is the year I buy one :)

I love my 10 inch Z71. It's not gay, it's European.
