Hit up collingwood yesterday; was about 23 feet deep. Caught multiple pikes. Lots of walleye on camera staring at the hook, but uninterested. Didn't see a single perch. But while I was moving holes, the metal in my coil broke on my auger. I had no tools to fix it. But two beauties in a red shack about a hundred yards away were nice enough to lend me some tools. I managed to break it beyond repair, but it was the the thought that counted. Lots of nice guys around to help a guy in need. Best of luck everyone.
You Know I've been catching walleyes in 42 to 52 fow. I don't know why. They seem to have flipped from 2o - 30 fow to 40 - 50 feet somewhere in January cause that's when I had to go deeper. And then you have to watch out when you get a large walleye on your line.I think by slowing your retrieve you give the fish a chance to recalibrate that airsac thingy when you bring them up.What I said is not scientific fact by any means, Just my take on itAlthough I know people that don't fish in deep say 35ft plus water just for that very reason that they don't want to mess up the breeding stock.
