Was out at island view, spring bay and Collingwood yesterday. No shacks on the ice at spring bay or at island view and no one has been driving on the ice yet. There was around a ft of ice (less in some spots) and lots and lots of ice heaves! Looked sketchy.  Fishing was very slow at both spots. Drove to Collingwood, saw maybe one or two shacks down the lake and it hadn't looked like anyone was driving on yet; didn't drill any holes or fish just drove by to check things out.

Was going to put the shack up at collingwood but it's heaved so bad looking for alternatives.

About 10 inches of ice where we were this weekend but there are some nasty cracks and heaves this year and still some thinner spots, 6" in one hole we drilled. If nobody put a truck through this weekend its a miracle, it will be a good two weeks yet before I would be willing to drive mine on anywhere other than the ends of the lakes that froze first.

Fishing has been pretty damn tough this year so far.

Anybody ever fish the Lewis creek area of the lake? Heard a few good things about it last year. What's the access like coming down the creek? Never been on lml before, hoping this winter is the one!

Lewis creek can be really good perch fishing if you hit it right.

Go to Strasbourg and once you hit the card lock turn west and go down the grid till you hit the lake.

I was at Collingwood yesterday. Went on with the quad the ice was 12 inches thick every where we drilled. we caught 20 perch and 1 small walleye. The ice is really rough going on with a big ice heave out front and nobody driving to far.

Fished near collingwood.  In 28 feet of water, the ice was around seven inches.  Walleye were biting, not hammering, but were there.  Shoreline is rough, and there is some minor heaves with a big heave running north/south for a long ways out in the middle.  We went out on a quad but its not ready for a truck yet.  The ice we did cut through, was good black ice though which is a good sign.  Not sure but its gonna be a loooong time before you can drive one side to the other.
Always willing to try something new.

Pointers for a person going out there for the first time? I'm coming from saskatoon. Heard from a few people the Lewis creek area is decent. Targeting perch and walleye. How deep does a guy fish? Minnows on rattling raps?

Very similar Todd I moved south from where we started and west found a huge heave drilled a bunch of holes.
The ice was a little thicker there by the heave. 14.4-15 inches it was 12.5-13 inches everywhere else.
Caught a bunch of Tullibee Kept three Walleye two were very small, and a couple of perch. Caught a nice Burbot over by the heave.

At least I had a few fish for breakfast tomorrow.

Going to give it a try again Saturday hope the warm weather wakes em up..

Nice work.  Were you guys driving on?  And do you know if you can access midway from the west side of the lake at all?

hey shawnR never tried to get there from the west side but I can see a barn and a house on the west side a little south of Midway. The west side also has deeper water could mean thinner ice.  We were driving on  the ice is good but check every time you move don't want any surprises. There are cracks and some good sized  heaves in places.

Hiked to stone barn 4 walleye, 2 jack, 1 perch nothing big. Tried Sarnia for a bit and drove the truck on, 2 walleye and 2 tullibee. Pretty slow fishing took some persuading to get a bite.

There is a trail off the grid that runs along the creek.  If there is little snow you should be ok with 4x4.  It can be a little rough.  I've only been there once and it was the year we had no snow.   You will see where most of the shacks setup.  You should be able to access the lake at Etters and drive north if the trail is bad.

Collingwood froze badly this year...bad heave running length of lake and ice thickness is very inconsistent...drilled a few holes on Saturday and 16 inches in spots but only 12 inches near heave...slow bite..picked up a few northerns. Quads ok but don't drive truck yet...too dangerous!

Yes they are driving on at Midway. Ice is 12.5 to 15 inches where I fished.  Mostly around thirteen inches.  Watch for cracks and there is a big heave South and west of midway plus a smaller one. I heard north of Midway there is another heave. keep your eyes open drive SLOW>.
