hey water wolf my wife just got me an ion auger for xmas are they as good as the advertising

Hi pcdoc,
Yeah, I do feel they are as good as they advertise. :)

They are indeed light weight, cut fast a regular ice auger and are quite with no fumes.

The number of hole is the only thing that may be a bit off. I feel that our cold temps drain the battery a bit faster than they advertise. They may have been testing them in in the warmer temps of the US ice belt.
40 holes might be a bit over zealous thinking in our frigid SK temps and through 2  - 3 feet of ice. :P
With almost 3 feet of hard ice we can have here, I think your looking at more like  20 - 25 holes before it needs to be recharged.

It would probably be a good idea to keep the battery warm if you can also. It may extend it's life a bit longer.

WW

Well I was hoping that would remain a secret for at least a few more weeks lol, but if you like to stay fairly mobile on the ice, the walleye have been hitting just about anything lately..

me and two buddies walked out from valley view boat launch, its across from the main beach at Buffalo Pound provincial park.  we were fishing just about at the middle of the lake and the ice was easily 7" and clear.

I was out yesterday afternoon on Buffalo pound.  Not a soul there.  Also, there was still open water in one spot.

There was lots at sand point and Loneys. Talked to a few guys in a couple different spots on the north side.

Only open water I was was the causway. Depending on the year it can be open all winter.  Not sure if there was open water anywhere else

Thinking about heading out this afternoon.  Is there anyone out? Is the ice thick enough? Anyone catching anything?

Ice is plenty thick...there are a few weak spots, but as long as you stay away from them your good...personal opinion I wouldn't risk driving out yet, lots of nice sized pike action

I was out today for the afternoon and there was a lot of trucks on the ice, its only 10 inches thick but people see one truck out so they drive on. The ice was making some pretty freaky noises when people were driving around.

A few trucks here and there wouldn't be so bad...but since everyone likes to pull up right beside someone else I just think It would be too much weight
