Do you think that Kinookimaw has ice?
Title: Re: Last mountain lake
Post by: TMRFISH on Nov 30, 2009, 09:06 AM
I was at kinookimaw on Saturday.  There was ice and open water.  Not enough safe ice even to walk out from shore a bit.  Based on this weeks forecast, there will be enough ice to fish next weekend.  The road from Kinookimaw to the landing is in rough shape but it is passable.

I saw someone in an Alouettes jacket fall through the ice so I notified emergency rescue.  I hope they saved him or it was a waste of a first class stamp!

I went to Little Arm/ Regina Beach area on Thursday. There was 7 inches of good ice. People were driving on it already! Walleye are biting a little...

Went across from Grandview on Friday and there was about 5-7 inches... must be lots by now!!!

Anyone been to the point at Pelican Pointe?  Any new of ice thickness there?  I'm hoping to get out this weekend and am itching to get out there and catch some fish.  I heard someone say that the point just closed last week, which means it might not be thick enough yet.

Has anyone ever fished the north end of last mountain (say Etters beach and north)?  I was just wondering what kind of access there is around the north end?

Thanks

I think Etter's beach has one or 2 full time residents that plow in the main road and access to and from there house. Never fished it, but in the summer I heard pretty good things. But I wouldnt bank on much access up there.

I have never fished that far north through the ice, but friends of mine make an annual pilgrimage to Big Arm @ first ice. The numbers of large pike that they have caught is amazing(I've seen the pics). As for the walleye, I've read some very good things on this site about Etters. Access, this year shouldn't be a problem as there isn't much snow yet. I assume that you can get on the lake @ either Etter's or Liberty Beach.

was out at kinookimaw yesterday, lots of guys out, lots of shacks out there too.  ice was about 18-24 inches.  ended up gettin out for the last 2.5 hours before sunset, got 6 nice eyes, all between 1.5 - 3 lbs.  the last fish of the day was the biggest and was around 4 (maybe 4.5)... nice fish though.

drove out to the spring bay area today, ice was about 12 inches out there.  lots of shacks out around wee-too and alice beach area.  couldnt tell if they were catching or not.  once we got the shack out and set up we dropped a line for a bit, saw lots on the flasher, ended up grabbin a few eyes but couldnt stay long, goin back out this week.

Did you happen to drive around Rowan's or Collingwood? Looks like the ice froze in giant blocks (got blown around then refroze) around Islandview.
Heading out tomorrow!

Hey Guys, just wanted to update you if you're interested.  Went out to Pelican Point on Saturday and the ice at the point was at least 10-12 inches.  Good to go.  Did some fishing Saturday and Sunday.  got some bites on Sunday but couldn't land them.  (don't fish much so the skill isn't all there)  Anyways, hoping to get out soon again.

no, we didnt go up by rowan's, we have a place at spring bay so we just drove on there.  kinookimaw had some really bad ice to, looks like it got busted up and refroze.  at kinookimaw the ice was good about 40 yards from shore then it gets really rough.  i want to get up to white rock but if the ice is like that it would be tough goin up there on the ice, maybe have to drive up past rowans and cut across somewhere???

There was at least 12" at Grandview. I didn't see anybody drive across, but they are driving along both sides. Fishing was pretty good, a few big ones with some eaters thrown in for good measure. Sunday was beautiful, no wind, coyotes howling & the walleyes biting. It's too bad our weather(& fishing) wasn't like that every weekend.

Was at Collingwood today north of and away from all the shacks. 17 inches of ice over 25 ft of water.
Slow going until 4:30 (4 nice perch) then the walleye started biting nonstop. Caught one Walleye with tumors all over it. Kinda gross
I have never caught one like that at Long lake before.  I did catch one at Lake of The Prairies a few years back that was covered in tumors.
Not sure what causes it. (Skin Cancer?)
Anyway  Walleye fishing is super if you can wait until dark..

I think..but not sure...that the sores on the outside of the walleye are nothing more than a parasite that will not hurt the eating of the fish at all. I was fishing with a fish biologist last spring at Dief. We caught one like that and he stated that they were just a parasite. Double check to be sure though.

as far as getting around on the lake goes, its getting fairly thick in spots with some pretty big drifts.  we have driven on a spring bay and driven on the ice however now that the snow is building up we r going out on the snowmobile.  havent done any fishing right on foxes, but we have been fishing a nice shelf just south of foxes, by the three cottages on the south side of the point.  the fishing there was really hot however it has died down now.  still marking alot on the sonar but the bite has quieted down significantly.  our shack is still out that way but we have found a new honey hole!!.  we did ok right on foxes last year, and always do well there in the summer.  you tend to get alot of burbot starting to move in on the sand points this time of year to spawn, so you may tag a few of them there as well.

We've been doing ok at Island view but nothing great. The ice road isn't plowed yet but the guy who plows it said it will get done soon. Big drifts are starting to be a problem.

We've been fishing 35 feet of water and getting decent perch and walleye.

Anyone hammering the walleye???!!!

We were at the Barn on Sat. & Sun., the fishing was slow but managed to get 8 on Sat. & 5 on Sun. Nothing big. Although there is a lot of shacks just north of Glen harbor, not many fish are being caught. We went and drilled a bunch of holes there on Sat & seen nothing on the flashers, so didn't stick around long.

I was at Glen Harbour yesterday and snow conditions are great but the ramp would be rough for a car.  I wish I knew about Collingwood too but I think it usually gets less than the Macpheat/Swanston's area and it was good for a truck.  Actually Collingwood has probably had so much traffic it'll look like the highway.

Tried to make our way to Glen Harbour this morning.  Road conditions got progressively worse as we drove down highway 322.  We ended up turning around only because we have never fished there before and didn't want to get stuck.  Alternatively, we decided to go to Regina Beach.  Plugged a couple holes and fished for two hours.  We were at Lumsden Bar playing buck hunter and drinking beer by 11:30 am.  Not a very good day of fishing to say the least.  Better luck next time I guess.

I am definately not trying to insult Last Mountain Lake - however, comparatively speaking, when we are at the chain lakes, there are many more fish on the flasher and camera.  At Regina Beach today, there were very few fish.  I have the impression that Last Mountain is good for trophy/large fish, but not great for quantity.  Maybe I'm wrong - but that is my personal experience.  I will say that I have had tremendous success summer fishing there.

Can you break trail yet?

Driving conditions suck and the fishing has been slow. My lifted truck even has trouble's after that big storm, hopefully the new tire's should help. There are trails on the lake.

Fished just north of Foxes (Island view) and then yesterday near Arlington. Fishing was incredible! Incredibly SLOW that is.

Fished anywhere from 20 feet to 40 feet of water. Hardly marking them on sonar.

Seems they shut down after that storm in January. Haven't talked to anyone that has had a good day since January. Wish I had better news to report. This lake makes no sense sometimes!

Let's hope it changes.

PS.  We didnt catch a damn thing.

Has anyone been hitting burbot or seeing lots on the cameras?  I am planning an outing with my grade 5-6 kids for a day of ice fishing/Lake ecology and would like to get them into the action when the burbot come in to spawn.  We finished building all our own tip-ups, rods and slammers...the kids are getting hyped to catch some fish.

We are going to Classrooms on Ice on March 9th at Buffalo Pound, so they should get a taste with some small pike at Lowney's Point, but I would really like them to get a better experience with a few more fish.

Later Days

Nice big pike spoxick, I was just setting up when you were got her.
What did you get the whitefish on, a smelt? ???

Nice to meet all of you out there, fun times. ;D

Have any of you been out to the North end {Regional Park area}, if so can you get on the lake?
Last time I was in that area there was a 2 foot drift blocking access to the lake.

Hows's the fishing at the North end?

Has anyone had any luck with perch lately?  What depth should I be looking for them at.  Ive been out the last few weekends with no luck on the perch and only 1 tulee.  I am fairly new to the ice fishing scene and any help would be awesome.  For a setup ive been running a tip-up with a smelt for pike and jigging either a glow head with a minnow or an orange jig near the bottom for perch or even walleye.
Thanks in advance!
Title: Re: Last mountain lake
Post by: eyefriendly on Mar 04, 2010, 09:46 AM
I don't really have any idea where or how to find the perch on that lake, but if you're looking for a few walleyes try a jigging spoon or heavy t-tot & an eye at the peak times concentrating on & around the points in anywhere from 25'-40'+. Over the years we have tried to catch them in shallow water but haven't been able to put together a consistant pattern that works. I still think that they come real shallow early & late in the day as we've caught the odd one here & there while trying for pike. I have'nt been out lately, but I've heard that it is slow.
Title: Re: Last mountain lake
Post by: walleyescooter on Mar 04, 2010, 06:50 PM
I can verify that it's SLOW!!!

Even the guys that fish this lake all the time are a little baffled right now. Try near Grandview or just south of Grandview in 30-40 feet of water. We fished Sarnia, near the Island and were in 47 feet and still catching nice perch (around a pound). It's tough going right now- no question!

Small jigs with minnows seem to catch perch... ever heard of a frosty? They seem to catch walleye and perch.

Good luck!

We spent 10-12 hrs. @ Glen Harbor, 1 dogfish & 2 other bites. Really really slow. We didn't move too much as it pretty tough slugging, heavy crust with powder below that adds up to being stuck alot. Even the quads were getting stuck if you weren't careful. On the upside it was a beautiful day to sit on the ice. Way better than a day at work!!!!

Well that is the end to a very slow season. The shack is back in the city. We still have a few weeks left and I plan on getting out a few more times but it back to hole hopping. I'm not sure what happened this year out at the harbour but it was one of the slowest years I have experienced. Due to the snow conditions we weren't able to move around the lake like we wanted but we were expecting to still be able to pick up a few eyes even on the slow days... boy were we wrong. I think I recorded more skunks this year than any other time. Maybe with the snow pack slowly melting we will be able to get out and hole hop the day way...

tight lines one and all

Not exactly on the point, but in the general vicinity.  Most of the fish were being caught around the 12-14ft mark.

Here are a couple of the photos of some of the fish we kept.  Still in the process of getting all of the photo's together.  I'm sure more will be posted by WW and others on the fishing Sask forum.

Hi shawno and gang.
It was nice to meet all of you and finally put a face and voice to the names I see on-line.
My uncle and I had a good time meeting and fishing with everyone. :)

It was also nice to see the younger generation fishing to.
Your niece looked like she had a lot of fun, and that's what it's all about. ;D

This was our big fish for the day a 7lb male burbot on the 29" mark.

There was no action at all after shawno's group left, but we did have a good chat with Sk-Pikehunter and his friend.

This looked to be the final results.

After Sk-Pikehunter and gang left we fished for a while longer before packing up ourselves at dark.

My uncle iced one more burbot just as we were packing up.

So in the end it was 3 for me and 3 for my uncle.
All but one were male.

Thanks for a good time everyone, see you all down the trail. :)

P.S.- That burbot with the yellow spot on it's belly and jaw didn't have a transmitter in it, I'm not sure what caused that coloration. :-\
We did find one with a fair sized black cyst it though. It looked like an old wound with skin shoved right into the meat. :P

Spox - I would not recommend a car on LML. It can probably still be done today, but not recommended.
Layne - DO NOT drive down the hill at Kinookimaw. It is muddy and rutted badly. You can get on at Regina Beach and make your way down very quickly and easily.
Travel on the ice is easy right now. It's the landings that are getting bad.

yah the other day you could have, i was going to get on there in my car but there was a couple ruts in the sand that i would have got stuck in. im not sure if it got any worse yesterday. We went on at island view yesterday and when we came off we broke the ice like 5 feet from shore so if people try that launch today stay on the south side or you wont get on

Can't wait for winter.  Everyone is cursing me but I want snow and Ice.  I still have a couple things left on my wish list to get and got 1 ski-doo to finish tuning up before the snow flies but that's it, ready to go other than that.  Getting excited and hope to do a few trips this winter as well.  We normally either do my cabin at Pelican Pointe or a friends cabin on Katepwa.  Hopefully get out to a few more places this winter.

Did anyone check out the Outdoor Canada winter 2011 issue. Saskatchewan lakes Tobin, Last Mountain, and Diefenbaker, named as 3 of 9 lakes in all of Canada for extra large walleye and northerns. See page 36, and 37.  I always knew they were there, haven't found them yet, although my brother in law caught a 13 lb walleye through the ice, off Kinookimaw (L.M.L.) a few years ago.   F.B.

We definitely need colder weather to get the ice on the lake.  Ski-doos are tuned up, ice fishing gear has been organized and tested, and my wife even wants to start coming out more this winter.  I'm not sure yet if that's a good thing of a bad thing but either way if she is with me I can't get yelled at for always going fishing.  :)  Can't wait any longer, please bring me ice.

Braved the nasty weather and went out to LML today, the lake was covered for as far as I could see. Big heaves and lots of soft spots all over the lake. The ice varried from 1-6" and its far from the best looking ice ive ever seen. Lots of snow on the ice, its going to suck for ice making. Caught myself a nice pike to start the season and missed a few, it was good to get out and test all the gear. With the warm weather coming this weekend I would use extreme caution going on the ice and stay close to shore.

Fished Little Arm yesterday. The ice is forming nicely where there is minimal snow (5-7 inches of ice). VERY bad ice once you find snow cover.
There must have been 10 guys out there, all fishing 18-19 feet of water. Not a bite or word out of anyone!

Road to Little Arm is not bad. Getting rutted out but ok.  Went to Alice yesterday in the wind. Only 3-4 inches of ice to the south of the launch. More ice to the North I hear.

Alice is next door to Wee Too on Last Mountain Lake.  At this time of year you would have to get to it from the Dilke turn off from Yellow Head hwy.  No idea how the fishing is as haven't tried it yet.  Will be my next venture.

I went off to the South of Alice (towards the bay and inlet). I used a chipper and not an auger and can assure it was only a few inches. Friends have fished North of there and it's fine. With this weather, it should build good ice.

Maybe thats a spot the geese kept open for bit longer then the rest  of that area.?? Guess you never can trust early ice.

We were out to the Grandview, Stone Barn and Alice on Sunday.  8 inches of ice was the constant...we even saw a couple of people spot drilling and driving their tucks on the ice at Grandview.
Don't think I'll be driving on until I see at least 30 cm of good ice, but with the cold weather, it shouldn't be long!
No bites all day, just a cold wind.

I went out to glen harbour later sunday afternoon and caught a few decent walleye, nothing big though.  How is the road at grandview?  I want to head out there but am wary of taking a car down that hill, some years it doesn't get plowed for a while and I didn't want to be stuck down there.
Title: Re: Last mountain lake
Post by: walleyescooter on Dec 15, 2010, 10:31 AM
Road down the hill is plowed up but access was drifted in late yesterday afternoon. One truck was on the ice but I would use caution. The ice was 8 inches in most places but we had one hole that only had 3 inches of ice!
Good walleye bite yesterday afternoon and a few nice perch a couple of 8 pound pike.

I think you'd be fine getting down the road with a car but you won't get a car thru the snowbank onto the ice.
There's room to park down there and room to turn around. We left yesterday at 4:40 pm so I am not sure what the sleat/ rain did to the road.

I remember when "Angel Eye's" were the magic lure, then "Chubby Darters" now the PK Lure. If the bite is on I dont think lures have a huge difference. Ive bought all the fad lures after watching video's and hearing internet tales and to be honest the usually are just a dissapointment. Everyones mileage will vary though.

Well I can confirm the fish reports from Walleyerus without pics. I actually hope he doesnt post them  as it may give a little too much info away LOL.  The PK Lures  DO WORK!!  I got close to 30 eyes myself with the biggest being 10lbs and also watched a 8 and 9 hit the ice as well. Not sure about the website thing as I have never checked it out but I was in the right spot at the right time when he was passing them around on the ice to try. I agree when the bite is on that anything will work but after my experience saturday I have to believe they are worth the investment. I too have a ton of hooks I bought on hype that do nothing but look nice ( anyone want to buy a wack of salmos?)  >:(

Obvously i didnt catch 120 eyes on a  teetot.  I did however have a great day on the fort lakes for walleyes. maybe 25 or so between the two of us.
They may or may not have caught the fish, but it was more to promote the lure.
Title: Re: Last mountain lake
Post by: rumblefish_1 on Dec 21, 2010, 04:11 PM
Say what you will but I was not there to promote any lure. I went fishing to catch fish for christmas eve supper for the family (mission accomplished). I am in no way affiliated with PK Lures and if you notice I was not on here pumping them right away either. I simply responded to another post wondering if they worked.  In fact I was using my favorite hook until I got one to try on the ice.  Next time I will lie and say they dont and keep it to myself.

good to see that people are using more than just a t-tott or a hauger spoon :)

It hasn't been mentioned yet, so'll I'll risk it... I sure hope people are taking photos and getting these breeders back in the water before they are harmed. Last mountain is a great fishery and is only getting better due to the fact that people are practicing catch and release of these big walleye!

We try to keep a few 1-3 pounders for dinner but anything over 4 pounds usually goes back in the lake.

Good fishing to everyone over the holidays!

Also great to see so many anglers practicing catch and release of these awesome walleye :)

Somebody told me years ago that LML had never been stocked so I did a little research and found that it's been stocked quite a bit.  I'm not sure how recently though.
Just because Collingwood wasn't good a few days ago doesn't mean it couldn't be turning on right now.  I've found that's one place you want to be set up early because the riot can be over an hour after sunrise.
Even though I'm out with a bad knee right now it's nice to hear about you guys going at it.

no reason you can't catch them in the North end. Any point around Etter's or Arlington Beach should hold walleye.

went to Alice yesterday afternoon and only caught a few dogs. Seems most people got skunked. Was marking them on the flasher but they wouldn't bite. Talked to some guys that fished the morning and they managed a few. Seems too early for the fish to have moved or shut off. Just one of those days.

Ive fished LML 4 times since last posting. The first 2 outings were really good with large numbers of fish and some pretty large fish(5-6 pounds) but with the crapty weather everything slowed down a little bit. We were still catching but there would be 20 lookers for every taker. Yesterday was my slowest day of the year for eyes, only managed 4 but thats not too bad for sitting in the shack 90% of the day.

The hunt for my big one continues, now that I feel a little more confident about the ice im heading further down lake to try some favorite summer time spots.

Also, seen several trucks cross the lake yesterday so were good to go damn near everywhere.

Layne..when you say "heading down the lake" ...did you mean further south? We were at Alice yesterday and Grandview today...two big skunks. Two seperate parties were pulling a couple up here and there but they were fish i would have thrown back...less than a pound. So...yeah ...definately slowing down since a couple weeks ago. I will bank on the fishing picking up in about 2 weeks. Just my two cents worth.

You may have been marking some whites as well. I had a camera down at Alice and whites...whites ...whites is all that i seen throughout the day. If it were @ Lk. Dief. i would have limited out on whites.LOL

We were out at Sorensen's Beach today. Had a little perch action but that is about it. Did see a pike, some walleye and tulibee on the camera. Tried a couple of places varying from 25-30 ft of water. There were a couple of other guys I know nearby that managed to catch a couple eyes, a pike and a couple perch as well. Ice thickness was about 18" where we were. My friend was about 50 yards over and a little deeper and found the ice about 9" thick.

Mike Your one funny guy. Yes go use those but if you want the real thing Get the Pk lures.  Layne and I  and ton of others know how good they are. Just think how many more you would have caught had you  used the Real thing Mike. Pokeys will have them early next week from what I am told. And Great Northern Has a  bunch of them now. Oh and by the way they are not only catching machines. They are Very reasonably priced. So not sure how someone like Mike can say half the Price when Pokeys is only getting them.Guess his post speaks for itself.  ::) ::) ::) ::)  Gee Mike I sent you a ton of pictures of all those Big walleye. Must have convinced you eh.

Sorry man - not to sound like a jerk, but if I didn't think you were "intentionally promoting" PK Lures, I'd be an idiot.  This is becoming incredibly blatant.  I've bought some PK lures and will definitely report back to this forum on their effectiveness.  Even if they do work - you are clearly trying to sell these things.  I've been reading this forum for years, and have never heard anyone promote a lure so emphatically.

We fished the pokeys knock off vs the pk last weekend and needless to say my cousin swapped over real quick, they shouldnt be passed off as the same hook. Glad to hear they sponsored up, from my experience they really do make a nice product and I've had good success with them. I'll agree every hook has its time and place, the pk may not be the solution all the time but they do deffinetly deserve a spot in the tackle box.

Eyecatcher00 and I will be out at last mountain friday-sunday in all likelyhood, one of us is due for a hog walleye. Im really hoping the weather takes a turn for the better, we have been putting in some brutally cold days on the ice. Nothing like fishing with 4 layers of clothes, face masks and ski goggles.

Anyone have any reports from the north end of the lake? Im going to start at the usual spot on friday but will be heading north up the lake to check out some old honey holes.

By the way, all caught on baits other then the ones heavily marketed by guys on this site. Pklures or something like that.

I have a Tanaka with a StrikeMaster auger...all I can say is AWESOME.  Very light and easy to start, turn the choke on and a few easy pulls.  You need to get the choke off almost as soon as it starts or it will die.  The StrikeMaster auger cuts very fast.

I have been fishing steady now for two weeks and have caught piles of fish. Pike, Perch and Walleye. Just like every other season I have used the same rusty old hooks in the bottom of my box and caugh as many or more than anyone with me. I like the one post where the gentleman said that lures are designed to catch fishermen, very true indeed!!!  For you two guys who are selling these "PK" lures, I leave you with this quote from an old veteran fisherman..... Was out today and light it up was able to land 27 walleye and 1 perch. Fished in 35 feet of water and used a Buckshot jig and a glow jig a whopper. This was my best day on the ice so far. One thing I found funny was that lots of the walleye hit above the hook vs comming up from the bottom. They're still biting out there.

Cheers!!

Hi all, well I've been a long time reader of this site, just never posted anything. love all the info pp place on here. I've been reading all the posts on this new PK lure. Sounds like some ppl like it and others don't. Well I like to catch fish when I'm out on the lake and if there's a new product out that i don't have, you can be sure it wont be long before I try it for myself.(regardless who is pushing it) So yesterday I was at the barn and had a chance to try this new hook. The hook did its 1st job and that was to get me to buy it, its 2nd job is to catch fish. We all know how many hooks we have in our box that look good but that's about it. The walleye were aggressive to start the day, and this lasted until about 2pm. There was about a 3 hour slow down, then it picked up again for the night bite. I tried 3 different PK colors and that's because I lost the other ones to some pesky pike. (thinking fireline might help me with this problem). So the total for the day was 22 walleye on this new hook. The average was 2-3 pounds, with the odd 4-5 pounder. There were 6 ppl fishing with us, I seen two 9 pounders caught on the PK.
Today I started at the barn again hoping to repeat the previous day. The bite was very slow, and didn't pick up at all. I caught 3 and my buddy caught 5. We moved north in search of some more aggressive fish. We stopped and chatted to a few ppl on the lake and it seemed the bite was slow all over. So, by the end of the day we hit 4 spots, range was from the barn to north of wee too. Total walleye for the day for me was 10, and my buddy was 11.
So this new PK lure now has a perminant spot in my winter tackle box. I can also see a few other places it might work. move over Buzz bomb, you now have some company.
So if you like the hook, use it. If you don't.... then you know the rest.
Like I said at the start, i like to catch fish and the fishing industry keeps making new improvements to the tackle we use. So thanks to the Pol that brought me a new tool to catch more walleye.

Not sure why you are worked up, this site is about sharing what is working and where the fish are bitting, that is why I read the threads, if someone wants to mention a hook that is working, good for them!  PS. PK's have been hot for me me as well!

Hi guys,
Have any of you been out to the N end of LML at the Regional Park?

If so, how thick is the ice and can you drive on the lake from there?

How was the fishing in that area?

Welcome to the Sask. part of Ice Shanty Wallyeyepro5. :)
Good to hear you and your group found some nice fish at LML.

For the rest of you roughly how deep are you going to find your walleye? ???

Ive met most of the guys ranting and raving about theses things in person and im not going to lie, they have lots of reasons to be happy. Ive seen more big eyes get caught on PKs in the last month than Ive ever seen come out of the ice period. Honestly if I hadent seen them work in person I would probably still be one of the skeptics but since being introduced I've run them almost exclusively, anyone that knows me knows I was seriously commited to buckshots and darters to say the least. Everything has a time and place and theses are simply just one more hook to add to the arsenal. Honestly I was getting kind of tired of paying 7-9$ for northland stuff so im glad theres some more competition out there now, maybe they will lower the prices to compete.

Started sunday with 3 rods rigged with PK's, picked up some flutter fish from Tim on the ice and now 5 of my rods are setup with their stuff. Perch coloured flutter fish with a walleye eye is money.

Back to the topic at hand, LML.

Went out saturday-monday and braved the cold, things have slowed down slightly but there is still good fishing to be had if you work at it. Caught 15 eyes saturday, 8 sunday and 10 yesterday. Not sure whats up with the ice but it has been making some crazy noises lately, saturday and monday it was insane! Lots of heaves and ugly ice up near alice/rowans but we travelled from grandview to all the way north of rowans with no issues. Watch out for big slush pockets near grandview, theres 2 that I know of you wouldnt want to drive through.

Heres a few pictures you guys may enjoy, eyecatcher00(now fingercatcher00) caught a 18.5lb pike on a tipup sunday at noon and the fish slipped out of his hand burying a monster treble deep into his middle finger with the fish still attached to the other end of the quickstrike thrashing around! I grabbed the bottom of the fishes mouth with my bare right hand to take the tension off the wire and cut it with my needle nose, then removed the hook to allow Kelly to snap a few quick pictures. i was even yelling at the walleye with 5-o-diamonds and they wouldn't even respond to that. After 5-o-diamnonds left we went north and up the east side of the lake and we only pulled in one walleye. Has anyone heard of the PK lure????? ha ha ha

Not sure why you are worked up, this site is about sharing what is working and where the fish are bitting, that is why I read the threads, if someone wants to mention a hook that is working, good for them!  PS. PK's have been hot for me me as well!

that's my point- sharing the info and catching fish. I catch heat from buddies for sharing too much. I like when others catch fish and think everyone should be able to enjoy it the way we do. The lure works, so do buzz bombs, darters, etc. It just seems too much like a marketing campaign and not enough about the fishing.
that's all I meant- I want this thread to continue to be about catching fish and sharing info, not marketing one hook.

on that note: was out today and did ok. fished 30 feet of water and caught a couple nice walleye. wrong hours to be there, but we got a couple ;)

Was out this afternoon off Sorensen's Beach for about 3 hours. Caught one perch and lost another. Was in 30 ft of water and the bottom was all stones. Have a question for all you ice fishing pros.
Do the walleye hang around the rocks as much in winter as they do in summer? The area where I was fishing was pretty much solid stones and they appeared to be a good size. Was really surprised  as I
expected to see quite a few on the camera and "may" have seen a couple as I was looking away for a sec and when I looked back saw 3 fish move out of the camera's view too quickly to make out what they were.

I can't speak for others but I haven't had much luck for wally on the solid rock bottom.  They seem to prefer sand/rock mixture or even mud.  Pike like to cruise the rocks though.

Some of our biggest walleye have come from around the rock islands and huge boulders!!!We usually do very well around these spots and catch alot of eyes.I think the baitfish and crayfish hang around or under all of this structure which will obviously attract the walleye.I have a problem reading bottom with my sonar around the rocks and you lose the odd hook when you tap bottom, but we definately catch walleye fishing above or even just at the edge of these "sunken islands" or boulders.

Went out to Alice. Tried everything to get them to bite. Everything I could think of. Marked 100 maybe even 500 fish. Had tried everything in the box. Then what did I see sitting in the bottom of my tackle box. It almost had a light coming out of it. It was glowing because the clouds had parted and the sun was shining directly on it. Like it was sent to me by Poseidon himself. It was the PK Flutter fish. I tossed it on my rod and low and behold I was bringing them in. But something was different. As soon as the hook hit the water the walleye were actually coming out of my hole on their own. Those same fish I was marking all day were now drawn to the power of the PK. I had to take it out of the water, until I can harness the power of the PK im throwing back where I found it, bottom of the box....because I didnt catch crap on it just like the rest of my hooks today. Nothing was biting. PK all the way.

Are there places to drive on around the stone barn and other spots around there.  Just a little fact for you, or tale, my uncle told me that the stone barn was built by one of my cousins back in the day.  They used to fish there years ago, my uncle also talked about an island across the lake from the barn where they consistently pulled up big eyes and perch, I thinks its more north though.   Because my family built such a great landmark that is used by fisherman all over the province somebody should give me a hint as to where to take my four year old daughter to catch fish out there.    ;);)  I`m joking I know how important it is to keep your spots safe.  I am just hoping to drive on if it`s safe enough.  I drove on a at Regina Beach last weekend but havn`t been up that way yet.  Can I get on the lake from the midway road between Strasbourg and Duval.  Tried last year but it was snowed in, I`m guessing it will be the same.
I would love to learn that lake but I don`t have the time to get out there that much. Any info is greatly appreciated! Cheers!

WOW......
Ok first off.....LM has been the hottest I have seen it in many. many years!
Most of the fish being caught are the 2-3 lb range which obviously was a good hatch a few years ago.
I have not seen as many big ones however....11+

So many hooks and baits have been working well for everyone.

I would like to see someone outfish me with the Pk lure 5 feet away from me!!

I don't know if it's allowed to give out information without endorsing a product... we drove across the lake today from Glen Harbour to the barn. Seems like plenty of ice in most spots, just avoid snow banks. Good luck!

Yep..the PK inventor was up here and I got smoked. HAHAHA  I was a bit skeptical at first but when you watch a guy hit a 14.5 lb walleye next to you , you start to convert.  If somebody wants to dispute it go ahead but you will see the entry in the walleye catagory soon im sure because I also saw them taking pics with the trny card.  Was at least 33 inch long. Only problem was it came up the wrong hole....should have been mine. LOL

Just got word that Tim's fish(PK rep) is likely going to be the new world record live release walleye at 33.25" inches long and over 14 pounds.... and its all documented on video. I would imagine within the next week we will have the pictures/video/story for everybody on ice shanty. Congrats Tim, you earned this one.

Good point rockets.
Perhaps the moderator can step in and make sure the posts are about Last Mountain Lake and not one company's lure.
Perhaps a new thread about the lure?
Title: Re: Last mountain lake
Post by: ran7ger on Jan 08, 2011, 09:40 AM
i don't think that 33" eyes are a 'regular' occurrence anywhere rockets...maybe heaven?  and i guarantee you if i'd caught that fish on my buckshot i'd be bragging the crap out of it too - and certifying it as a record if possible.

look at any thread about any lake in SK and there's likely mention of one or two brands of lures so i'm not sure why a little promotion is such a big deal.  especially if the guys can back it up with some pics.
Title: Re: Last mountain lake
Post by: rumblefish_1 on Jan 08, 2011, 09:42 AM
Last I checked I was talkin Last mountain lake.  Or is it only ok to talk about LML  as long as it mentions to not mention certain people or companies?  I thought it was pretty cool to be there to watch a big eye come up and as for live release record, congrats Tim.  Some one on here said they have a bigger live release through the ice ( nice fish) but didnt register it . Why wouldnt you register it??? Being in the Fishing Hall of Fame with a WR is pretty elite dude. If its not worth your effort to do it thats ok but dont throw stones at the guy that does. Just because he is affiliated with a lure company does not mean he doesnt deserve the same accolades as the next guy regardless your personal take on him or his hook.

wow- pump the brakes :)

Congratulations is in order- that is a great fish. Hat's off for releasing as well!

Not everyone is bashing the lure. I was one of the first to say it's great to see that other lures are being used on LML. More tools that work, the better.
I was merely trying to keep this LML thread active with information about the lake and not an infomercial about one lure.

Hope everyone has a great weekend of fishing!

Yes a 33 inch walleye is a dandy, congrats
Not a record though, keep in mind the one caught at nipawin by the priest(lucky bugger)  17lb and change
got an email today about thin ice at the south end opening of the river where sledders come on the ice, this true?
anyhow, action was slow for us, fish seem to be very deep (out to 50 feet) and very lethargic.

Well, I was gonna stay silent as per usual, but gotta add my $.02... I grew up fishing LML, and for 20 yrs hit every point/drop/bay from Glen Harbour to Collingwood, and across to Whiterock down to Wee-Too... Caught lotsa big fish, lots...
Then life took me out to Manitoba, and I kept my ice fishing passion going by fishing the Red River and Lake Winnipeg. I will say with 100% certainty, there are big fish here, biggest I have ever seen. Personally I have caught many over 30", they ARE common at certain times of year. I have had friends catch 4-5 of these pigs a day... I'm not kidding. I have seen with my own eyes Walleyes 33, 34, and 35 inches, but more impressive are the girths. My biggest is a 34" that had a girth (measured in front of the dorsal) of 26"!
Dont believe me? Come try it yourself, go fish the south Basin of Lake Winnipeg in March... Or the Red River north of Selkirk on first ice... you'll see. Many of the guys on the boards would be happy to show you where and how. Or come to a freshwater fish Marketing place where the commercial guys bring their catch in - you wanna see 15-18pd walleye? Too many to count... or buy a bag of jumbo cheeks from them - cheeks 3" in diameter...
I could post pics, but all you have to do is get on a few of the MAnitoba boards and you will see the pics of the hogs...
They are sooo big cause they have food sources that seem endless, especially the rainbow smelt...not to mention that there are 3-4 big rivers constantly filling the lake... its a wonder of Nature out here, that is, how big the fish have become.

As for registering fish, some people do, some dont. Personally, I dont, just not my gig, but to each their own. My feeling is I like the area to be pristine and left alone by the masses that will take over trying to catch the big ones... all you have to do is look at the south Basin of lake Winnipeg - on a sunny warm spring day there are hundreds, if not thousands of guys fishing the lake... good thing its sooo big and they are scattered.

Being a Sask boy thru and thru, with green blood, I am glad to see the big fish being caught out there on my old stomping grounds - and feel fortunate to catch the big ones out here...

Bite has slowed down since last week, hopefully it picks up again. Theres alot more snow on the lake now but you should still be able to get around ok just watch for slush. You can get on at rowans, sarnia, islandview, ect..  before the snow most launches were plowed or had a good path. The ice for the most part seems to be over 18 inches but you still find the odd thin spot. Hope that helps.

Im the opposite side of the coin so to speak. Im a Manitoba boy, grew up in different parts of the province but have family in Winnipeg, Russell , Dauphin and Riding Mountain. Im going to be hitting Lake Winnipeg late season and hope to land a nice walleye over 10. Great to hear Manitoba has some good hard water angling.

There is access to the lake at Sorensen's Beach. I just came back and was able to drive onto the ice with a Ford Escape. Snow is about 6-8" deep on the ice at the present time. Do not think I would try it with a 2WD. If we get a good wind I would imagine it would peel off a lot of the new snow.

Islandview is another spot on the East end just South of Rowan's. It is usually maintained by locals to get on and off the ice.

Well went out this afternoon for about 4 hours. First place I tried was in about 25 ft of water. Saw a couple of good pike cruising around and one walleye. Lots of tullibee swimming around. Moved to about 32 ft but ended up over a boulder bottom. Again just some tullibee and nothing else seen. Skunked....This was off of Sorensen's...

Fished the Weetoo area yesterday with a buddy.Ended up with 22 walleye a few perch and too many tulibee! We caught smaller eyes in 42 feet and some bigger ones in 32 feet. Biggest was around 5lbs and a few around 3.5lbs.Caught a majority of the walleye from noon till 3 p.m. in 32 feet. The bite has definately slowed down but the walleye I caught hammered my lure! They were hitting as soon as I marked them on my sonar.

Fished Wee too today in the cold/ wind. The walleye have performed their annual disappearing trick.
Too many tullibee to count, a dog fish, pike and two lonely walleye. I even had the wonder lure on for 3 hours.

Fished off Sorensen's Beach today. Did get one nice walleye and a fairly good size burbot. Did see a couple of nice pike on the camera along with a lot of tullibee. If anyone has an underwater camera and get tired of turning the cable pick up one of these as they are great. Great Northern has them in Regina.

Get on the ice at Grandview Beach and drive up the lake towards Alice Beach until you see a big stone barn foundation and walls on the shore...then you're there!  I usually fish the point by the barn.
Hope you have a good time!

Fished Collingwood this morning.
Lots of shacks out there I tried a little south of the shack village and caught 6 small perch and a walleye from 9:am to 2:30.
The flasher was marking lots o fish.  should have brought the cam  along to see what the heck they were.

Most places it is not too bad  but there are some good sized drifts you have to watch for and they are not easy to spot without a good set of sunglasses. I saw three different trucks get stuck when they plowed into these drifts, This was at Collingwood north of the shanty village.

Thanks for the report on the ice...

I tried it today and my only success was that we got on and off the ice without getting stuck! It's really ok in most spots but tough to spot some drifts.
Fished in 44 FOW and caught only one walleye and lots of tullibee.

Anyone else having luck?

dropped the rear end of my truck through the ice yesterday morning, about 50 yards east of main pier at Regina Beach. Pretty much f'ed up the entire rear end of truck, may even be a write off, but at least I didn't sink it! Have drove on most of lake for years, drilling holes and fishing all over, and have never seen the ice so inconsistent, so just a heads up to anybody heading out, stay away from any points, inlets, and wherever I am fishing at the time.  Also, I heard that 2 other trucks broke through at Rowans, can anyone confirm this?   In others news, fished Little Arm on Sunday and got a few good walleye, and lost a monster pike at the hole, which sucks for me and her.

Damn, clean through or just through the slush? The ice sucks near rowans, I was out last week and we drilled a hole that was only about 10 inches of crapty ice.. great feeling when the trucks parked in the middle of the lake and you need to cross to get home.

Good warning for all. The ice is sketchy this year. Even this week, we drilled 18 inches of ice then another hole not far away had 10 inches. Be safe out there!
Does anyone know if they are still letting water out the South end of the lake?

I saw the pictures...OUCH! Poor toyota  :(  You were right on the point that runs out from the main beach...ice is always sketchy there even on a good year.  I'm sure you'll stay clear of all the points on that lake in the future.  You're not alone though, I saw one truck go through at Wee Too earlier this year and a couple at Regina Beach last winter.

Is anyone having any luck there?

I wouldnt go near Pelican Point any time of the regardless of how good the ice is. I could have died there a number of years ago during an ice fishing trip, not worth risking.

The short answer's yes.
If you go back about 5 pages on the Sask board there's a thread called Ice Warning!! started by engineman and on the last page fishnpigskinz printed out the watershed warning issued Oct 21.  If you haven't read it yet now's the time.  I would of bumped it up here but the quote button doesn't show on my phone on posts that far back.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Streamflow Advisory/Warning - Fall & Winter for the Qu'Appelle System
October 21, 2010

Streamflow Advisory/Warning
October 21, 2010

Fall and Winter High Flow Advisory for the Qu’Appelle System

Above normal precipitation during this past summer has left much of the Upper Qu’Appelle River Drainage Basin saturated. Even with a normal snowpack this winter, there is potential for an above normal spring runoff in the basin.

Last Mountain Lake is approximately 0.5 metres above its normal elevation for this time of year. Therefore, the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority will continue to operate the Craven Control Structure on the Qu’Appelle River throughout the fall and winter months to lower the level of the lake, freeing up flood storage for 2011 spring runoff volumes. Depending on the outflow rates that are achieved once an ice cover develops on the Qu’Appelle River, Last Mountain Lake is expected to drop 0.6 m (2.0 ft) from now to the beginning of April 2011. Therefore, it is imperative to bring the Last Mountain Lake down as much as possible prior to spring.

The downstream lakes on the Qu’Appelle River (Pasqua, Echo, Crooked, and Round) are also above their normal operating ranges. As such, their control structures will remain fully open as well to draw the lakes down over the winter months and allow the excess water from Last Mountain Lake to pass through the system. Pasqua and Echo lakes are expected to drop 0.6 m (2.0 ft) from current levels by the beginning of April 2011. Crooked and Round lakes are expected to drop 0.9 m (3.0 ft) over this same period. Mission and Katepwa lakes are expected to rise slightly over this period.

The fall and winter releases may lead to unsafe ice conditions throughout the winter. Areas of concern include areas around the control structures, on connecting river sections, at locations where the lakes narrow, and where the river enters and exits the lakes. Also, the reaches of the river with high currents now will likely have hazardous ice cover. The releases may also create hazards near the banks as the lake ice drops over the winter months, making it difficult to drive onto and off of the ice.

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority does not mark off potential hazards associated with ice conditions and those that choose to venture out onto the ice do so at their own risk. It is up to the individual to ensure that the ice is safe for the activities planned.

As lakefront cottage owners prepare their properties for the upcoming winter months, it is advised that they take extra precautions with their property located near the lake this season. There is a significant potential for lakeside properties and structures to be damaged by ice during the winter months and spring breakup of the ice. Precautions which should be considered may include removing boats from boathouses and moving docks up to an elevation that is well above the current elevation of the lake.

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority will monitor the situation and issue updates as new information becomes available. Spring runoff forecasts, with estimated spring peaks for the lakes, will also be issued monthly and posted on our website beginning in March.

I fished just south of the point last week in about 20' of water.  The ice was about 18-20" thick.  I moved west of the point to 28' just south of a few of the locals' shacks, drilled a hole and was only 10" thick or so.  The longer I stood there and tromping down the snow around the area, water curiously started showing through where I walked.  I packed up and circled around heading north then back towards the point and hit major slush.   Stay away from the there me thinks.

I was out fri and fished Wee Too out buy 2 tree point where the shacks were and caught 1 pike. I fished the Grandview, the Stone Barn, Alice and had 1 perch to show for all that effort. about the only place I didnt fish was the Bay at 2 tree. No walleye for me, was extremly slow, didnt even see much on the flasher. I used all sorts of hooks from swimming lures to the mystical PK lure....it sucked. I also chatted with a local and he mentioned that the bite was slow at Alice, he fishes with all the cluster of shacks just north of the launch in about 34-28 ft. of water.

Regina Beach Outfitter and G&S Marina are the only two allowed to guide on this lake. RBO has shacks that they rent and are set up in Little Arm and Regina Beach. It's your best bet for getting bit this time of year (without knowing where the heck the walleye are hiding :)

Most guys fish closer to Regina. There's great fishing up there. If you have a quad or other access to the lake try around Arlington or towards Etters. If you just want pike and perch try closer to the North end. There should be access at the regional park (Govan). Good luck!

Hey BCrefugee,
Try this number to get in touch with Lance 729-2964.  My wife and I rented a shack from him for a couple of days for an ice derby that we were putting on for some friends.  It might take him a day to get back to you, but he is pretty easy to deal with.

I was out at Pelican Pointe this afternoon for a few hours and the guys out there have stopped taking their trucks out because of the snow.  When they go off the track with their quads those get stuck too.  I did see a couple of guys driving around, but not many.  We only went out to about 13' and tried for jacks.  My friend had one good bite and that was it.  Locals report it's been slow everywhere and even though they got a couple of good fish on the west side, the snow's keeping them from prospecting too much toward the cutbank.  The shacks that are out there are only about 1/3 of the way across. Locals are fishing south and west of the head of the point in 25' or so.  Out 75 yds from shore in 13 fow the ice is 12" with a little slush.  Out in the middle it's 2' and over the head of the point maybe 3 or 4 inches less than that, which is normal but there may be slushy spots.    A guy with a high sprung truck might be ok but I think a skidoo with a sleigh would be the dogs balls out there right now.  Fishing's slow anyway so better to let it freeze 4 or 5 days and hit it next week.

Was out sunday caught 1 little pike , lost a walleye in the hole had been jigging facing the wall 45 mins when my wife woke up to stoke the fire says the flag is up on the tip up I thought it had been up and Ihad not noticed in my excitment I grabbed the line feeling at it felt a enormous jerk than nothing I pulled in the huge smelt to find a 4" wide bite through it , the wife said the flag had just gone up I pulled the smelt out of the big ladies mouth OUCH >:( !
Anyways I wish I had seen the flag go up
Thats fishing eh ! ::)

Gotta hate that, that was probably the 20+ pounder you were looking for too. How was the shack you rented?

went out today near Two tree and got 5 walleye. Walleye Scooter is back- thought I needed to change my name to Perch Scooter for a while there!

not too bad getting around the lake with a 4X4. Anyone else out today!?

Thats a pretty good catch considering what time of the year we're at. Congrats!! How big were they?

Cheers!!

Thanks! Felt good to finally get a few :)
They weren't big- all eating size.
I've heard of others catching bigger walleye, so they must be biting somewhere!

if ur close to Regina id start at Little Arm bay. If you feel like venturing out on the lake hit most points and bays all the way to collingwood Foxes point north to Rowans is usually a good producer for big pike. But watch out Ive found out that the snow on LML can get deep reel fast in places. Little arm usually has a pretty good trail to it on land and by sea if you not up for blazing urself a trail adventure!

thanks 4 the reports. hmm wee-too or collingwood. I'm still a rookie on LML, only fished collingwood once before(and got skunked), never wee-too or anywhere else on LML since i was a kid. is access and ice good at wee-too?
Title: Re: Last mountain lake
Post by: darkwater777 on Feb 04, 2011, 12:46 AM
Access is good on Alice Beach but the trails are heavy with snow and you need good 4x4 getting around the lake. The trails will probably get better as more guys head out but I advice on a shovel I needed to dig my self out once.

Well, we were delighted to pull in a 20lb burbot today!  Thats was exciting.  Otherwise, a couple small jacks and a tulibee.

We're considering cooking the burbot in bite sized pieces wrapped in bacon.  Or is there a better way???

Back in the late 80s when the provincial record was 14 and change I caught one that must of been around 12 lb and I remember saying good thing it was in an 8" hole because it wouldn't of fit through a 6".  I caught a couple of tens in the 90's and that's still over twice the weight of an average burbot.  Anything over about 5 lbs and the quality of the meat goes down - big means chewy.  I'd like to see some pics too if there are any.  If it's anywhere near 20 it's at least a lake record.  And if you caught it on a PK Lure all hell's going to break loose! :-)

Well, I guess we shoulda done a better photo shoot.  I added a size comparison picture of the boot too.

When the burbot got up the hole, the line snapped from his weight and we had to reach into the hole and grab him as he was sliding away.  Thank god it wasn't a spiney walleye or a jack in that case.  We were using a double tailed jig with a meal worm.

There are pics on this blog:  FYI: Sean is 6.5, 260 lbs who is holding the fish.  His boot is 16" long and 6" wide (size 15, steel toes).  Seans hands couldn't reach around this sucker.  What a monster!

At first I thought the same, 13 - 15 but I'm going to reserve judgement on this because I have as much experience with 20 lb dogfish as I have with size 15 boots and it can be tough to guess with those fish.  I think if one of the fishingeeks would take a look we'd get a guess with some authority.  Frostyballs you tell that guy you want a scale for your birthday!  ;D

Nice Fish Frosty...

I would say it was in the 13-14lb range.

I caught this one last year...it was right around 11.5lbs close to 30"

According to your shoe size...Size 15 = 12.31 inches...I would estimate that your fish is 2.5 boots long by looking at your picture.

That puts your fish roughly around 31" (12.31 x 2.5)

This time of year...they are starting to feedbag on...give your fish another month and it could have went 15lbs.

I only have a few pictures of the shack. I will take more this weekend. You can see the one picture on my construction blogg. Just search Brimmer & Co Construction on google, or follow the link. I built it in two pieces and made it super light. I can move it around the lake by myself(by foot). I will need to make some minor adjustments to it this spring or summer. I just need to put on some trim around the door and change out the stack for a smaller one.

i have the best kept secret to catching any fish on any lake. if you find fish, don't tell the whole world where you caught them. this way, they will be there when you go fishing, and not 1000 part-time fisherman who can't find them for themselves.  stick to this tip and i guarantee your secret spot won't get fished out. ;D

Hey findyourown,

this site is meant for people to share info. Not everyone gets to get out every week, or every month for that matter. Lots of people use this site so they can go out and have a chance of catching some fish- maybe share the experience with their kids, etc.

One can share a lot of information and still have lots of success- especially when it comes to ice safety, or general depths that fish are being caught.
Don't give up your GPS waypoints, but, in the spirit of this site, share some fishing knowledge. There are some great fisherman (and women) on this site and I commend them for sharing our sport. There's plenty of fish in this lake and there's getting to be more and more catch and release fisherman.

And... welcome to the site :)

i don't mean any disrespect to anyone, and i may have come across that way-and i'm sorry.  i think this is a great site and that's why i joined.  letting people know about ice conditions, trails, getting on and off the ice etc. is  great, because more people should be fishing. however, fishing is a sport as well and the sport of it is finding the fish on your own and trying to catch them.  if every pitcher told the batter what he was going to pitch, it wouldn't be very exciting baseball.  so when people tell everyone (and there is probably alot of people on this site) where to catch fish, what to use and how to use it, you may as well put fish in your bathtub. i have my favorite spots, and i'd hate to have 1000 people fishing there because someone caught 2 or 3 fish there the day before. and i don't think i'm alone on this one.  so share hook ideas and bait varieties, but basically giving gps directions to a spot for everyone to see, you will see everyone there.

Hi finzandpigskinz and buddy,
Dandy big burbot guys, way to go. :)

I agree burbot are very tasty fish, one of my faves, along with pike.
We cook the burbot fillets in a frying pan with a bit of flower and spices and serve with potatoes, rice or perogies, but my favorite way to eat them is to cube them up
and deep fry.  Once golden brown serve with chips.  Fish nuggets, ummm ummm good. ;D

I have been on this site for years and I can count the number of times on one hand I have seen GPS coords. posted this forum intentionally advertising people to come and fish your spot ( it never happens!! ).  If that is all you are concerned about...don't worry about it...no gives them out to the general public and don't worry no one will be asking for yours.

Relax...

Enjoy the site.

Well... we're not going to the Sarnia area today. Likely won't fish 30-40 feet of water and won't be using smaller stand up jigs with minnows or eyes...
Probably won't catch any walleye.

Glad the fish are biting at Grandview too!

We caught some nice walleye West of Rowan's and kept a few. Most were in 30 feet or so. Decent activity from 3-5 pm.

No, rockets...we usually do pretty well releasing bigger ones. Just bring them up really slow and make sure their air sacks aren't "bulging". I've talked to lots of guys that successfully catch and release from 50-60 feet. They're good fisherman and just use patience instead of horsing them in.

Not too bad crossing the lake either. Didn't get stuck at all :)

Part time fisherman are the ones stick in "the secret spot" the of the anglers on the ice realize fish move at all times in the day, they move around the lake and are mobile when chasing them down. Good luck with the secret spots  :o

Was at Collingwood yesterday, stopped in on my drive home from a northern fishing trip, which was not so great.  They have way more snow on the lakes up north and the ice on the lakes we were at is about 8 inches thinner, some lakes were a foot thinner.  Colling wood had three feet of ice easy!  I almost barried my auger.  Caught 1 pike on the Ice RIgger tip-up and a herring.  It was around 10 lbs.  Flasher and cam showed a few perch but nothing crazy,  mind you we also had to leave during prime time at 4.  Getting around near collingwood was pretty easy just keep your foot on the gas if blazing new trails.  It seems the snow has melted down a bit too from the mild weather.

west side of the lake, 27-41 feet. The eyes came around 30 feet mostly and were biting hard around 4 right when we had to leave. Tough leaving the lake when they are biting

The Bite was good the last couple times out. We moved several time and once we found them our group did very well. The ice is not what it should be and my guess is it will be done  even before the end of march. We down sized everything and used a minnow head/or small perch eye. :)

He was fishing just off the main road where you come onto the lake at regina beach.  You come down the main street, pass the gas stations and the bar and there is a big beach on your right.  The point drops into 20 feet fairly quick and thats where the walleye have been biting most of the winter. ;D

A buddy of mine went through while he was on foot just last week so be careful out at the Regina beach point. I was told there is an old spring there that may be active again. It has been colder but I'm not risking it.

Im not sure about an old spring becoming active again but i know the current around the point may have had something to do with weak ice.
There was a truck that went through a half mile north of glen harbour 2 days ago.

Henderson's Bay is on the West side of the lake near Etter's Beach.
Should be good pike and walleye around there if you can actually get out in this weather! :)

sorry- don't know about access at Henderson's.

We did head out this weekend for a couple of hours. Two of us caught 8 walleye in the Wee-Too/ Alice area. Great fishing with no wind!
Anyone else been out?

Hoping to get out this weekend after I get my shack off echo, once the shack is off I will be spending the rest of the season on last mountain chasing big pike and eyes.

Is it tough moving the shack around now with all the crunch snow scooter? How well does that shack of yours pull?

Hey Layne! The old shack doesn't pull too well thru big snow banks. Might be tough to get the shack off the lake but we'll do it!
Have you been out?
We've been focused on Alice/ Wee too and we're getting the odd walleye but nothing fantastic or big.

Just got out for the first time in while yesterday and we fished the other side of the lake with pretty good success, the burbot and pike are really starting to pick up. If you guys need any help getting the shack back to glen harbour let me know, its fairly easy getting around but there are some big old drifts out there and the snow is banked up pretty good at some of the launches. PM me for my cell number if you need it, eyecatcher and I should be out all next weekend. Glad to hear you boys are getting some eyes.

Cheers

Nice fish and it's sure a good thing you're not sharing any info! People will push your shack out of the way and fish out of your hole! That must be what happened to the find your own fish character. Nice job! ;D

We were out yesterday and didn't catch a single fish!

LOL, I agree no need to get specific, Regina Beach is fine enough. ;)

You don't want to experience what I call the "Sea gull effect". One gull gets a fish and before you know it the whole flock is after him, trying to get that same fish.

I have had it happen before, it's amusing to witness, but not as fun when it happens to yourself.

When I was last out on sunday you could go anywhere easily WW, with it warming up now it might get a little stickier and tougher to get around. Bring an extension, I was maxing my auger out everywhere I drilled on that side of the lake.

went on at pelican point last night. got a big white fish and a small dog, wasn't worth it. the snow drifted in bad along the shore was still soft and easy to get threw once out about 20 feet it was easy driving. ice is still thick there but with this weather its probably good the seasons coming to an end.

You might not be able to use every launch but im sure you will be able to get on somewhere. Buddy got stuck getting on at grandview last night, I'd imagine with the big puddle there its going to start rotting quick if it warms up. Im hoping to take wednesday/thursday off to finish off the season but we are freaking swamped at work right now.

We should be out there thursday, we'll get you off the lake dont worry. As long as it didnt blow in too bad we should be able to get on/off at alice or most anywhere for that matter. If anybody is feeling brave they can try and use the trail I busted through the steep launch at spring bay on saturday, better have some big grippers or chains though it was intense.

Last time we were out there it had just recently been blown in but somebody did the grunt work and opened it up, still ugly though. I'd imagine once everyone started driving through there it packed it back down but with all this wind and snow I have no idea what it would look like right now. If we fish weetou on saturday we'll try and open it back up if its been blown in.

Went out yesterday and had trouble getting on the lake. Alice beach is BLOWN IN! Had to go to Sarnia to get on the lake.
We got off the lake at Island view and it was easy going.

Only 5 walleye between the 3 of us. Buddy caught a couple of BIG dogs that were spawned out.

try the bay north of wee too. You can park near the lake and walk out near the fenceline. Should be decent for walleye... just walk out to your left (West) and find 8 feet of water. Good luck!

There's room to park near the houses/ cabins- just follow the wee too road to the end and you'll see it.

ice thickness varies considerably from one area to another.the area from alice too stone barn just frooze and there is a preasure ridge forming allready. They will be leaving the gates at craven open all winter to get the water level down for the spring runoff.be carefull out there.
