tipup setup
« on: Dec 16, 2006, 07:28 PM »
i have seen alot of ways to set up your tipup for different fish you want to catch but i was wondering what you guys might suggest for line setups for an "any thing that bites" tipup. just something i can rig up and drop in a hole and catch bass, pickerel, perch, trout, salmon or what ever decides to bite that day. i appreciate the feedback

 Kinda decide big or small
big: picks, bass, trout, walleye and pike set about 3' off bottom. Bait with bass shinners.
i'd use 10-15# floro.
small:crappie, bass, perch, trout, and picks try dropshot rig w/2 hooks. 1 about a ft off btm and one up about 3-4 ft. 6-8 floro.w/ crappie minnows.
Good luck... If I had only one tip up for all fish ...10# floro, bass shinner #8 treble.
good luck m2cts

To cover the whole works, you could also just put on a 1/4 oz - 3/8 oz short shank jig and live minnow, with a 10-15# floro leader as A-bomb mentioned.  Its a quick and easy setup, nothing fancy, but effective.  8)

I would use size 12 treble hooks and split shot sized to the bait that you are using.  Size 12 are nice, i have caught perch to lakers with them and I have friends that use them for pike.  When it comes to the leader, I would use 6 or 8# test florocarbon for them unless you are going for pike.
For every complex problem, there is a solution that is simple, neat, and wrong.

I also fish in Maine.  I use size 6 eagle claw hooks.  A med sized silver shiner should sufice.

I also use beads but thats for another thread..
