Clam Gear Drive

Anyone used the gear drive and call tell me if it provides more torque and more holes?  Are those its advantages compared to a direct connection to your drill?

It is a 3.6:1 gear box, so your torque is goin to increase by 3.6x and your speed is going to decrease by 3.6x.

Starting with a 1200in/lb 550rpm drill, after the gear box you are going to have a 4320in/lb 152rpm auger.

Advantage is more available torque so the drill has to work less and it is easier on the drill (thus more holes)
Disadvantage is less speed when drilling (thus longer duration of using the drill)
In the end you wont get 3.6x more holes, but you will get a noticeable amount... I am nowhere near smart enough to figure that math equation out.

Also I imagine the gear drive will come into play if you want 10" holes.

Are you using a K-Drill?  If so a straight drill will give you the req’d power.

The power drive gear eliminates the kick back torque from the drill. If you have kids and women that uses the auger too that would be an added benefit because of the slower RPM.
