Well, not one post from anyone who has ever had major issues with a Vexilar. They are simple, durable, dependable and...wait for it...THE BEST D**N LOCATOR ON THE PLANET!!! 😜🤣

Now if the freaking retards at vexilar would just put out a dual beam we'd be good.

just sold a fl8 slt that i bought used in 1996 and it was getting kind of dim over the years and the bottom started jumping around on me.  set it in to vexilar and for 100 bucks they cleaned up the rings and replaced the motor as that was what was making it jump around.  used it all last year and was "stuck" with is as my boys used the newer fl8 and the 3 year old fl22hd.  worked like the two newer ones.

My FL12 is on season 11 or 12 not sure, it must be a lemon though, I replaced the battery 2 years ago lol. That is all.

Hmmmm...hope it was a fluke. Just sold my 8 and picked up the 18. Haven't been able to try it yet...so far, so good. 😉

Going on 22 years with my FL-8 SLT.
Everything INCLUDING the original battery is still working perfectly.
No need to use or try anything else.
It's made ice fishing simple. It gets me on fish, if those fish are not active then I move until I find active fish ...

I just ordered a flx28. It is the 60th anniversary addition with all the bells and whistles and was what I thought a great deal at $639 down from the original price of $750. It will be replacing my Marcum lx5i which was a good unit but everyone I know with a vex is happy with them so I made the switch. It arrives next week so I am not a vex guy yet unless you ask my bank account but am excited to join the vex family. I did have an fl8 years ago that was at least 5 years old when I bought it and ran perfectly when I sold it a few years later when I moved from MN to PA. The guy that bought it still uses it up there and said he plans to pass it on to his kids with no doubt it will still be working. They are the work horse of flashers IMO

Wow you replaced your lx5i with the flx28?! I always said I would do that if my lx5i took a s#*t.  Probably will but the only small factor that I like with the marcum over the vexilar is the target separation.  I can definitely tell the difference.  But all in all it shouldn't make much of a difference.

the only real difference between the 2 for me would be i like the lx5 gain control over having to enable weed and lp mode and I prefer the dual angle ducer to the proview.  But the 60th has all sorts of other case bells and whistles.

I might be a marcum owner and I LOVE the performance of the lx5i but I think the vex flx28 probably takes the cake!  That vex just looks awesome and you know you'll have it for a lifetime without any issues.

Bought my FL8 shortly after they came out and just recently sold it.  Worked great and did all I needed it to do.
Shut up and fish.

I've had my 18 for so long I forgot when I bought it  ::) (I do know it's been at least 11 years.)  It still works perfectly.  This year I upgraded to a lithium battery from Amped that is projected to give me 60 hours of run time between charges.

Just sold my fl 12 dual beam 9/19 pro pak to upgrade to a marcum lx7 hope I made the right choice. The Vex was working flawlessly. I have had a few chance to use the Marcum and so far so good.

Nice, I was thinking about upgrading to flx-30bb myself, hard to justify when my fl18 still gets the job done.

My fl-18 is 15 years old and still going strong.  That thing has been on so many trips, towed in the otter behind a snowmobile.  So reliable, I bet that it sees another 15 years easy.

Fl-22 has 6 years on it with no problems.  My tri beam transducer cracked and they sent me the newer style, which is now discontinued.   I really wish that they would go back to a dual beam 9/19 option, but it will probably never happen.

I bought a used Micronar FL8 in about 1982 and an FL18 the year after they came out. I gave the Micronar to my son and both units are still going strong.

I replaced my HB 797c2 with a Helix 10. The 797c2 replaced my Vex FL-8 so I could use the GPS. My Vex sits in the basement crying to get out there.

Glad this post came up.
Have a dilemma.
Have a FL8 that has run awesome over the years.
Wife has found out why I love ice fishing so much :(
So, since I like to leave the shack and search for active fish.
Thought I'd leave her in the shack with the FL8.
Was thinking of getting a FL18 (maybe reconditioned)
Everyone's thoughts?
Is the FL18 the way to go?
Hard to leave a Vexilar with the good luck I've had with my FL8
