Quick Strike Rigs
« on: Jan 09, 2015, 09:28 AM »
Do any of you guys have any pics of the quick strike rigs you use. I am going to make my own instead of buying. Just want some different ideas. Or should i just keep them plain. Also, if you have any pics of them rigged with bait would be great to see also. Thanks in advance.

This is what I use. 20 lb. Malin titanium wire with Gamakatsu #6 or #8 treble, a barrel swivel, and electric shrink wrap. Use the smallest diameter wrap that will slide on the shank of the
hook. The wire is thinner than fluoro so the shrink wrap will tighten up just fine on fluoro, mono, etc. Tie a treble on, slide another one on, shrink wrap, swivel, done deal. I hook the treble
with the shrink wrap behind the head of a sucker far enough back to balance it and hook the other treble toward the end of the tale. Fairly easy to make and inexpensive if you use fluoro.
hope this helps.

Vary the leader weight and hook size to match what I am fishing for;

I keep mine simple: uncoated wire and high quality treble hooks with crimpless connections. #6s x 30# wire for dead bait (top) and #10s x 20# wire for larger live bait. Smaller hooks tend to be sharper and slide between teeth for reliable hookups. The top hook can slide (that's what I do) or be fixed with a number of options.

Here's a closer look at the crimpless connection:

Sometimes I slide some beads on, some guys use blades. When you roll your own there's no limit to the possibilities. And yes, experimentation is fun and cheap....

To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

I make mine the same way. Plain and simple,6 and 8 eagle claw lazer but I make really long leader.

2 #4 eagle claw trebles, and #4 power swivel. Beads and blades are optional. I start with about 2' of leader, fuse on a hook, [if using beads/blades, put them on now], slide the swivel on, [other set of beads/blades], then fuse on the other hook. I then put both hooks at the same level and find the exact center of the rig to put the swivel. I finish by tying a simple overhand knot to keep the swivel in the center. Notice I use coated steel and fuse the ends with a candle instead of using a knot or a crimp.

Here are some I have made. Once you have the components the crafting of them is addicting.

What were you using to store your leaders, some look like fast food cups?  Every time i open a tackle box the leaders shoot out like springs.

The cups I am using are called portion cups with lids you can get at a party store. I think they are the 2oz size.
