Well I didn’t notice when I left for work this morning, But when I got home the lake locked up today

With the cold expected to stay I think there will be (safe) ice fishing by December 1st for sure.

Driving by the causeway on way to MJ this afternoon. I don't think my pucker is physically able to clench tight enough. Open water under the bridge on the other side.

near the boat launch it was 9" last Tuesday. A guy drove on the lake with his truck to bring out his shack and he didn't go in.

Was out yesterday, the ice is about 10 inches !! Got 1 nice pic and kept 9 perch.

we were by the boat launch.pretty slow..ice is about 10-12 inches.

Was out today ice was between 12 and 14" 2 pike 1 pickeral and 10 perch. Pretty slow most of the day.

Fished Loneys point on sunday, was a beautiful day to be out for the 1st time this season but the fish had other ideas.
Slow bite for most everyone we talked to. Oh well that's fishing and we'll giver another whirl this weekend.
Ice is good ice in that area and around 13". Lots of vehicles and campers on the lake.

I was out Saturday 09:00 - 16:30 east of Loneys. Pulled out a small walleye right off the bat then nothing for me the rest of the day. The other two guys were pulling up the odd perch, 24 between them, they kept 9 I think.
Slow day, ice was 10 - 11"
We could see lots of fish on the camera but they didn't seem hungry. The perch and the walleye seem to co-exist fine but everybody left when the pike show up.
Sunday I went out with the wife, was at Hitchcock Point from 12:00 - 13:30, not a nibble. Ice was 11"
I drilled 9 holes further out from the tent but found nothing in any direction.

Buffalo Pound rookie here ...I'm hoping to pull my trailer on this weekend , thoughts on this mild weather and how it's going to impact the ice / springs ( like the ones that swallowed a couple trailers last year) near the provincial park? Any areas a guy should definitely avoid ? Thanks for any input

More experienced folks that myself should answer but here's what I remember:
- Stay away from the causeway on the west end
- Trucks have gone through near North Grove (west end, north side) in past years, not sure if it was due to heaves or thin ice
- There is a pumphouse for the mine across the lake from Hitchcock Point (mid-lake, north side) that should probably be avoided
- There is of course the pump inlet for the water treatment plant on the east end of the lake that should probably be avoided
- Last year or the year before, a spring opened at the Loney Point boat launch just to the east of where you drive on between the boat launch and point
Might be a decent little project to map these out and post it. Really though, driving on ice / lakes is never 100% without risk any time.

May the fishing gods be with you all ...okay if I'm 100% honest , may the fishing gods be with those you that clean up your crap on the ice , if you that leave coffee cups and snot rags flying around , I hope you give up the sport and sell your gear.

Was out yesterday 16 to 17" of solid hard ice. Slow fishing but managed to catch 3 14" perch for the frying pan! 9 total for the morning so ya it was pretty slow.

Not a thing biting today.
Got out at 11:15, packed up at 17:00.
Saw a few perch on the camera and some jack but no biters!
WARNING:
It appears someone dropped some wheels through some thin ice at Loneys Point straight out from the boat launch!
My wife, friend and I broke off some branches and stuffed them in the holes as markers.
Ice is only about 4" thick!

I have updated the map with some additional markers and widened the usage of the map. I thought it might be helpful to add "local landmarks" to the map to help people new to the area understand where people are talking about in the forums.
I've added places where one can access the lake.
I've also added a warning about the Trout Pond at the park.
What I need:
Ice access locations
Hazards
Landmark Names and locations
Help is appreciated.

The map is outstanding and really appreciated, it would be nice if someone made a thin Ice sign and posted it close to the areas ...might cause good fishing karma for someone!

Is the spring at loneys to the south or north of the lake access, the map appears to be to the south, but a ways out from shore.. is that accurate?
also, do more guys fish or access the lake farther down near Hitchcock point?

The spring at Loney's is between the boat launch and the point to the left / east when you were driving on. The holes we marked were past the end of the point about 30 yards or so. That whole area around that point should probably be avoided with a wide berth.

We should all just assume the ice is thin at all times and can change without notice. Regarding signs, I wonder if the village would be interested in posting a sign on the point?

Was out on Sunday at Sandy Beach on Buffalo Pound lake. Fished at 9 different locations around that area. Ice was 18"- 20" thick. Ranged from Sandy Beach east side to the west side and about 2 KM in both directions, up and down the lake from the launch point.
Launch point was an easy drive on with no issues.
Slow fishing day, only caught a few perch over the course of 5 hours. Showing a moderate amount of fish on the finder, but not hungry at all. Plenty of nibbles but no strong bite. Spoke with a few other and they claimed no better results.

Fished buffalo about 15 times last year off Loneys in different locations . All I saw on the camera as far as perch were lots of small ones. Same result with what was caught lots of small ones for every keeper which were few. I've heard the perch pop has diminished the food sources resulting in stunted growth .

We were out yesterday across from Loneys. Must first time fishing on Buffalo in a few years. We noticed the exact thing. I thought maybe it was because of the fishing pressure. A lot more shacks and trailers than I remember in the past.Nice day though.

Was out today really cold but caught my limit of perch. Saw some very nice Jack's and a couple of pickeral on the camera that didn't bite. Ice was between 17 and 20in.

I don't think it's over fishing. Used to fish here in the late 80's and there were lots of big perch. They lowered the limit and now with them being prolific breeders there are too many perch for the size of the lake. You can catch a lot 50 + but few are worth keeping. Nice for kids and catch and release lol

Hey all you hard water angling friends how's the bite been on the pound lately? Or has it been slow like everywhere else?
Thought I'd type something down here to get this Post back up on the main page, it's been a while since I've been out myself and a while since anyone has posted anything about
Buffalo Pound. Good luck enduring this frickin cold stuff but I guess that's why they call it ICE fishing.

Hi all!
I will be collecting water samples from a sampling point by the provincial park boat launch sometime this weekend or next week (see circled point in the attached picture). According to infecticide's awesome map (thanks!) it looks like it is safe to drive on the ice from the boat launch to this point. But thought I'd post here to double check.

Was wondering what everyone's opinion is on the poor fishing at Buffalo Pound this year. I'm no expert angler, but up until this winter, I've always had good outings on the Pound. My best day this year was worse than my poorest day last year. This past weekend the family and I spent both days fishing there. One perch on Saturday and one on Sunday. Not even seeing them on the camera. I know there is heavy fishing pressure on that lake, but wondered if there are other factors at play? Quite depressing.

It's a really good question and I've had the same experience as you.
There are probably a million theories but it's also a fairly large lake (for the south anyways). In my observations there are really only two parts of the lake that are fished quite heavily (Loney's/Sandpoint and Parkview/Valleyview). In my opinion a lack of people trying new locations likely plays a part more.
