2014/2015 Lake Louise Thread :)
« on: Oct 02, 2014, 05:14 PM »
Ok who is ready to do some ice fishing out here this winter? I know I am, but first I plan to catch some open water lakers this weekend. I will report back after the weekend. It's been getting cold but I bet it will be a month before we have enough ice to get onto some hard water.

Heads up for all you weakened warriors that need a warm bed and a toilet lake Louise lodge will be closed from November through February. For those of us that don't need all the amenities of home John will still be around to sell fuel and propane and plug in our vehicles the night before you leave.

Oh good so we will be able to plug the truck in. That was my biggest worry.

Me, Salmon man and a couple others had a good day fishing out there Saturday, can't say that it was a good weekend because mother nature opened up a can of whoop asss on Sunday. Before the 30 mph gusts blinding snow and three foot chop we caught 16 Lake 10-15 LBS.

Headed to the lake on Saturday to pick up my boat. If the boats starts its going in the water for some trolling action.

I never been any info or you can shoot me a personal message. I don't have a sled but I do have a quad and would be willing to bring a camper to stay for 3 days. Is there decent fishing where I could walk to with kids or four wheel too?
Lets go catch some fish!

you can walk out to Army Point. I did this week. Fishing was slow,I think the low pressure had to do with that. I did catch one ok fish. Ice is four to six inches. don't think I would call it a kid friendly fishery if you catch a fish an hr your doing good.

I don't know that I have ever caught a fish an hour on average out here. In open water and 4 rods in the water, yes. But even then its about 2 fish per hour. Last year was painfully slow for lakers through the ice. I had whole weekends with zero or 1 fish. If you see some crazy guy on the webcam this weekend its probably me. Come say Hi if your not to scared to go on the ice this early.

We had the same average on Sunday actually a little better.  The only problem was they were all pretty small with nothing over ten pounds.  I'm planning on dragging the shack out over thanksgiving we should have a foot of ice by then.  Hey Pat how was deer hunting.

There should easily be 12" by Thanksgiving. Deer hunting was pretty good. Shot a whitetail which I haven't seen many of in Montana for a few years.

The ice is good to go from the lodge out to the first islands. 8-12". Be careful around the channels and any places there could be water moving.

We need to keep Mike Chandler " Dirtofak " in our prayers.  He has been ill for a year and now he is in the hospital on JBER.  I am not sure of his illness I just know he is in bad shape.

Last I heard he is suffering from extreme vitamin deficiency.  That's all I know at this time if anything changes Susitna Mike said he would call me.

Ice is very solid ranging from 12-15" and there is only 8" of snow on the lake. The shanty town is located in Larsen Bay this year. Stop by and say Hi if your in the area. Fishing was very good last Saturday while it was snowing.

I talked to Mike today and it sounds like he is doing much better.  He said he is going to try and go home in the next week sometime once he gets his strength back.  He is at Wassila hospital and he said they still can't give him a definite answer as to what is wrong.

Hope Mike gets better, that sucks to be in the hospital for over extended time period. Especially the unknown.
