2007 St. Croix Ice Rods
« on: Sep 11, 2006, 12:21 PM »
St. Croix has decided to do away with its Avid series ice rods. They said most people were buying the premier ice rod, since the only difference was the handles. The Premier ice rods will stay the same for this year.
The Legend ice rods will now only come with reel seats. If you're a fan of tennessee handles like they have had on previous years' legend ice rods, you'll have to find some leftovers from last year. The new reel seats will be the same as on their Legend Elite spinning rods. Here's a picture...

I personally hate reel seats on ice rods, so i'm glad I have the older versions of Legends.
They also are coming out with a Heavy spring this year, to go along with their light, medium, and medium heavy springs they already have.

I agree, no reel seats for me. I like the handles to be about 5" long or so like on my 28" panfish sweetheart. I'm going to shorten the handles on my to legend rods before first ice. :)

Electrical tape is the only way to go.  8)

No. wire ties or zip ties are worse yet.  All you need is some "good" electrical tape. Like Scotch Super 88. Makes it nice and neat with no bulges.  Like this Legend of mine...

Then you'll be happy with this years model of Legend ice rods, like I stated in my first post.

I use the good Scotch brand electrical tape, but some bigger heat shrink tubing will work and it is available in different colors and even with glue on the inside of the shrink tubing that melts when heated. (I like the glue) One of my favorite rods is my 28" Panfish Sweetheart made by the Thorne Bros, the entire handle is 5 1/4" long and fits my hand good. I like small handles because it leaves a bigger blank section for better rod action. :)

They're not in stock yet, but will be shortly. And all 2006-07 legends will have reel seats.
