Mission Lake - 2020 - 2021
« on: Dec 29, 2020, 09:20 AM »
Walked out from the Lebret boat launch on Boxing Day, lots of stuff swimming around but not hungry I guess.

Ice was 14"

Went out yesterday, walked on from the south side.  The top half of the ice where I setup was very cloudy and crumbled very easily when drilling in my ice anchors for my tent.  The bottom 6 inches or so were dark ice.    I would be apprehensive about driving on Mission with ice like that.

Ice total depth was about 14"

Caught one Cisco and one small walleye twice, made off with the bait the second time and didn't come back.

Jan 12/2021 - On at Lebret boat launch - Ice ranged from 17.0" to 18.5" at 4 different locations.

Drove on from the boat launch... fair size ice heave at the launch.  Truck cleared it, but just barely.  An alternative path to the west was less of an issue.  Lake is snow-covered, but only about 2-3" will little drifting so the driving around was pretty easy.  Best site was straight SW of the boat launch.  Quite a number of shacks out in that area.  Poor fishing out from the Lebret mile market and out from Red Head cottage.

Fished 30' to 35' of water over the 4 locations.  8 Tulibee (Cisco) and 4 Walleye from ~11:00pm - 3:30pm.  Regular marking on the flasher, but poor bite overall.

Jan 18/2021 - On at Lebret boat launch - Ice ranged from 18.5" to 20.0" at 3 different locations.

Drove on from the boat launch... fair size ice heave at the launch still there.  An alternative path to the west was less of an issue.  Lake is snow-covered with some minor drifting, but only about 3". Best site was straight SW of the boat launch.  Quite a number of shacks out in that area.

Fished 30' to 35' of water over the 3 locations.  10 Tulibee (Cisco) and 6 Walleye from ~10:00am - 3:30pm.  Regular marking on the flasher, but poor bite overall, especially after 2:00pm

Feb 2/2021 - On at Lebret boat launch - Ice was 22.0" at the one location we fished at.

Drove on from the boat launch... fair size ice heave at the launch still there as well as quite a large snow drift.  An alternative path to the west was less of an issue and a few earlier travelers had broken through the lower snow drift there.  Lake is snow-covered with some minor drifting, but only about 3".  A few larger drifts than last time, but still not an issue for a truck height clearance where there were drifts.  Several good paths out to where shacks were set up.

The best site was straight SW of the boat launch.  Quite a number of shacks out in that area.

Fished 28' at 1 location.  5 Tulibee (Cisco) and 5 Walleye from ~10:00 am - 3:00 pm.  Regular marking on the flasher.  Decent fishing prior to noon,  but poor bite in the afternoon.

Feb 18/2021 - On at Lebret boat launch - Ice was 25.0 - 28" at 6 locations we fished at.

Drove on from the boat launch... drifting around the launch area, but there is an alternative path to the west was less of an issue.  More snow drifted in that area but a few earlier travelers had broken through the lower snowdrift there.  Lake is snow-covered with some minor had pack drifting.  Several paths out to where shacks were set up.  Seems shacks have been moving more west on the south side of the lake

Fished out by the 1 KM marker off the highway at several depths... 18', 26' and 35'.  Caught 9 Tulibee (Cisco) and one decent jumbo perch.  Move further west down the lake near the red cottage on Northside.  Caught 1 small Walleye, 1 large Perch and 8 more Tulibee (Cisco).  Fished at depths of 28', 36' and 42'.  Most fish caught between 29' and 36'.

Fished ~10:00 am - 3:00 pm.  A decent day, but the bite before noon has been the best in the last 5 outings... all of Feb. so far.  Regular marking on the flasher but the bite was off after 1:00 pm.
