Where are the Walleye
« on: Feb 11, 2011, 02:44 PM »
Hey I just moved up here in St Albans and I want to get some walleye fishing in before the ice thaws out.  All I want to do is catch a walleye I dont need to know where the hog walleye are or record walleyes.  I have never really caught walleye before since I came from a place where walleye fishing was scarce.  Any places to go ponds to try that would be cool.

Carmi is pretty consistent all over the lake... Big perch too

x2. Carmi is your best chance. There's a slot, I think 17in to 19in must go back. You can keep up to 5 only 1 can be over 19in.

So does that mean I can keep any size except 15 to 19 inches and only one fish can be over 19?

I believe you can keep 15-17 and 1 over 19.

Please check out the VT fish & wildlife digest, its a little tricky and
varies watershed to watershed. CT river slot limit is much different than
Carmi for instance..

Carmi is a good bet for walleye. Limit 5 fish per day. 15-16.99'' are keepers. 17-19'' are slotters that have to go back. Only one over 19 can be kept.  A good spot is by the reef by the island or off to the right of the state park where the first field comes down to the lake.

No 'eyes today off West Swanton, usually a good spot but it was slow for perch pike whites and smelt too... On Champlain try any place you can find a reef and run a foot or two off the bottom from shallow to deep... Take advantage of the 15 lines per person and spread them out, even though the walking is tough.

Hi,

I have a question.
Why 1 walleye over 19" on Carmi?
I practice catch and release but why to keep a big walleye on Carmi? For trophy?
I am curious because in Quebec to keep big walleye is not legal. (Over 21'')

Thank's for your answer!

The Carmi is a beautiful lake.
