Hooks don.t look big enough .Id go with #4  If those un painted jigs are lead make sure you paint them or coat them before you use them.

Whitefish don't have a very big mouth. I think they'd choke on a #4

Put your bait on right you would have a better chance at bigger  fish. Small hook small fish. Smelts on # 4 hooks no problem.  Get some one to show how to put bait on right.

I like the disco balls! Haven't seen them before.

All last season.  ;D :icefish:

Gotta tell ya, Woodchip, with the gear I use, I get more hits and very few hook spits! Pretty much, once they take that small rig, they on on the ice soon. I have broke a few large by-catch fish off and had a couple light hook loses, BUT more hookups BY FAR. So, the average landing per hookup is probably like batting 800! That ultralight rod is constant spring tension, give NO slack, unlike a stiff rod that doesn’t have the bending tension. Come fish with for a day, Olde Boy!  ;D  :icefish:

Years ago I was jigging perch in 30' of water and hooked into a Brown Trout my first year with a 10" hole played him good had him in the hole and the jig popped out I had my hands on him but the hole gave him room to turn and that close to 10lb fish was gone  all I got was a look at him and his big hook jaw and some slime on my hands. after that I made sure my hooks were Garmaguse hooks which are sharp enough to penetrate a tough jaw. and went back to an 8" hole.
