Mountain sled
« on: Dec 07, 2019, 07:12 PM »
Anyone use a mountain style sled ice fishing, like a summit or rmk? I'm not towing hard sides or anything, just looking to get a sled next year and would like something for Backcountry riding and fishing with an Otter sled.

Definitely not ideal if it has a paddle track, but it can certainly be made to work. I far prefer a sled with studs for ice duty especially if you tow something decently sized. I fish with a 137" but it's a prestudded 1.5" track. As said above, definitely want scratchers but most mountain sleds run them no matter what here in the Northeast.

They are what they are, good for full boar wide open country climbing mountains.   Maine country is more geared to a good utility machine, I think you will end up with more headache with a mountain sled.  They over heat up here pulling an otter sled if they are not in powder.

Look into the Skidoo Expeditions. The are an all around sled, but more gear towards work related tasks. They have a 154" x 20 track, high and low speeds, and an articulating chasis that makes going in reverse much easier.
