Salmon Jigs?
« on: Feb 23, 2006, 10:09 AM »
What is a good jig for salmon.  I have tried many and just don't seem to get lucky.
Hey - there is always fishing

I have had better luck with out of the ordinary jigs.  Never really did well with Swedish Pimples and the like.  I much prefer something with a slower more enticing flutter such as a mooselook, needlefish, fishlander, michigan stinger, etc.  I usually am only jigging down to 10-15 feet so a fast sink rate isn't important.  Try off the wall colors also.
I'm just here to read what all the experts have to say.

A copper or nickle mooselook bent to a greater degree. I'm told the purple one is a killer. dad

Try a big yellow maribou jig about 1/2 ounce.  Rich.
Looking forward to some "crappie" nights!

I like a blue/silver Little Cleo...they have some weight which is nice for the vertical fishing and they are wide which gives them a good flutter. Caught a few salmon ansd some browns on it this year. Tip it with a pinhead or small strip of minnow.
