New to Lincoln
« on: Jan 05, 2018, 09:51 AM »
I am new to the Lincoln area. I have grown up in western Nebraska and had knowledge of all the lakes and ponds passed down from multiple generations and contacts that I had in the area, but here I'm lost. I have fished wanahoo in the past but other than that lake I have no idea where to go. I mainly go for crappie and bluegill but would be open to trying to pull some walleye up. If anyone would be willing to share some tips on local waters/positioning on the lakes or anything that might help me in my search I'd really appreciate it!

One option is to go to Salt Valley Lakes fishing report; it gives you a breakdown of area lakes and the densities of each fish found in them. When you scroll to the bottom of the page there is a map showing all of the surrounding lakes they stock. It's a good starting point for you.

There are lots of lakes within an hour of Lincoln other than Wanahoo.

Like was suggested earlier, read the 2018 Fishing Forecast here: http://outdoornebraska.gov/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/FishingForecast2018.pdf

Next check out the Salt Valley survey from last year: http://outdoornebraska.gov/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Salt-Valley-Fishing-Forecast-2018-1.pdf

Then get the Open Fields and Waters atlas and look that over for the walk in ponds that aren't in the two previous reports, and check those out too. https://maps.outdoornebraska.gov/PublicAccessAtlas/

Ice fishing is a subculture, one wouldn't understand until they experienced it...
