ice shanty anchors
« on: Feb 16, 2017, 01:56 AM »
i found the best and simplest way to anchor your shanty is to bring along a hammer and a 12 inch steel spike.  Hammer the spike in tilting slightly away from the shanty and leaving about 1 to 3 inches protuding above the ice,  put your shanty pull chord over the spike and your good to go.  The spike hammers in easy and may freeze in in colder weather, but just a tap will loosen it.  Only drawback I found was once I used it in 3 inches of ice on a warm sunny very windy day when the sun warmed the spike elongating the hole in the direction of pull and finally dislodged
