16 days out...still early but not looking to bad!

May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others and let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung,
May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your songs always be sung.
May you stay forever young.

I have set a deal with Dags bait  and tackle in  Auburn  that we can get smelts from him for 6.00 a dozen. these would be bagged and hit with oxygen.
I have check  a few other places that are running from 1 to 2  dollars more a dozen

Very kind of Dag's, thank you!

It's getting close now, I'm heading up this Friday/Saturday for 10 days. Other than a coastal storm this Friday the forecast is good icefishing weather, with a little snow every couple of days to keep the snowsled happy.

Glare ice is what I'm hearing and plenty of it. It looks like they just got a little snow yesterday. Minimal snow in the forecast for now. Forecasted temps for those dates range from lows mostly  in teens with highs mid 20s, 30s and 1 day 40°- downright balmy! Fishing conditions are always good up there just sharpen your hooks ;D Wind will be our only worry if we even have a worry...If you are at work jump on to the Moosehead lake web cams for a live preview.

We'll have a similar view from Shanty HQ!

Sounds excellent --- thanks for the update.  Yeah, 40° will require me to bring shorts and t-shirts!!  ;D  Those webcams are great.  Good way to get a live look in on conditions.

Reports the last three days said over 2' of ice, some places more. I'm hoping for a little snow to keep the snowsled sliders happy.

Assuming the Friday storm doesn't blast us here at home, I'll scout a little before Wednesday. I'll be sure to leave some fish for you guys. ;) ;D

Wish I could join you guys again but work says otherwise. I was up at Moosehead two weekends ago and we killed it on salmon. Right below the ice in 40-50fow. Even caught most of our togue that way. Haven't had much luck catching togue deep since winter of 2016, right when I thought I figured it all out...

Cant say what it's going to be like when you all arrive, but right now riding on the lake is pretty decent, have yet to see a pressure ridge anywhere, pretty flat ride etc.  The weather has been fairly warm, melting the little bit of surface snow left on the ice.  We got about an inch or two of wet snow last night, a bit sloppy on top right now, but again, easy traveling no issues for sled at all (right now).  Wheelers, side by sides etc should have no issues (pending no big storms in the meantime), chains may help you in some of the slippery areas.  No clue if any snow will fall in the meantime, but if it did that would be good as what's left at this point is a bit sloppy.  Ice is 28 inches, measured it this morning, you'll have no issues there.  Best of luck to you guys!

When we left Saturday conditions were great, BUT it looks like things may be changing. Early projections are calling for one to two feet of snow Wednesday into Friday. Wheelers and side by sides probably no longer an option unless you have the tracks. Given that amount of snow and the ice thinkness you may consider having an extension handy and or a shovel, just a heads up.  Good luck guys, go get’em.

Arrived last night, travel was postponed a day thanks to our friend the nor'easter who dropped a tree on my shed at home in CT, crushing it.  >:( Fished a little today, not much to report except there is lots of ice. The fish had lockjaw but I suppose that was expected after such a big swing in weather. The weather forecasts are conflicting, some say snow as Queequeg reported others the storm goes out to sea. It's ice fishing, nothing to worry about. Welcome to Maine  :)
