laker structure

I've done ok in both types of structure. But what to know what you much more experienced guys prefer. Would you rather fish a nice funnel coming up out of deep water, or an under water point leading out to deep water?

A great big "flat" - deep water. But I guess it all depends on the lake too.

Very true. For me, I like some structure around. The lakes near me don't get deeper than 70'. I don't usually fish deeper than 40'.

Yup - I fish from 70-120fow. It's no secret - Lake George.

I think it really depends on the primary forage species and where they tend to congregate in your chosen lake.  The lake I fish most has both smelt and alewives.  I still have a lot to learn, but based on the stomach contents of fish I've kept, seems like smelt congregate along 80-100' contours where a deeper flat runs into a steeper rise or inside turn, while alewives suspend part way down over deeper flats.

Here in Maine I tend to look for a basin area, or any sizeable area of flat bottom anywhere between 80-100 feet and jig a foot or two off bottom. They seem to congregate in these basins in the lakes here. Catch smaller Lakers in water 120+ for some reason...
