@ The Cabin 2020/2021 Edition
« on: Mar 20, 2016, 08:28 PM »
Well the winter is mostly done with the days becoming longer and brighter so it's time to start preparing for this years cabin building exercise. I took a long vacation in December when I went back East to visit with pop and missed all the early ice fishing, so when I got back home in January I spent time working on cabin related projects. The biggest being the body and paint work on my double steel doors that will offer access to the crawl space/basement area.

I got out to the property in January to check out how my place survived over the winter.
Just like I left it but with snow everywhere.  :)

As soon as March rolled around it was time to order up some supplies.
Got my wood order done a couple of weeks ago and it's waiting for me to haul it out to the cabin over Easter.

I also ordered all of my custom windows and expect them to arrive by mid April well before the ice goes out.

I have been out to the cabin the last couple of weeks hauling tools and supplies as well as packing and grooming trail for the heavy work.
I was going to head back out today but it was more important to sleep and watch hockey.   ;)2

It's really beginning to look "Housey", Dave.

Will it require a HD Umgawa! vehicle to tow that HD heavy loaded trailer out home?       :woot:

Best of luck and thanx fer keepin' us informed.

I'm glad to see that your cabin survived the winter, and your preparation to start the build again. Last summer
you had us glued to the IS to see your progress and I'm sure all of will be waiting to see the progress you make
as you build. We are all rooting for you and can't wait to see the finished cabin. You're a man with a mission.

When is the Grand Opening for the Palace. I got a sleeping bag and wouldn't need much floor room for the ice fishing kickoff of next season. Damn that's nice. Oh and is the submarine shuttle running; might like to try that out too.

Drifter/Dave glad to see your cabin came through the winter in good shape. Like the others looking forward to this years updates. If I'm reading your post correct the windows currently installed are being replaced or you have to cut the opening and install the custom windows. May you have another good season of building.

WOOT! Cabin porn!! Thanks for starting this thread, Drifter, looking forward to continued build updates.

As for what will the lumber become, I am going to place some of my chips on the pressure treated becoming a deck. I see 4x4 posts, 2x12 joists and 1x6 decking in there. I think the rest is going to become your loft or second floor. We'll have to wait and see what magic you make with it  @) @)

Steve

Those windows were just temporary to let light into the building.
There will be 8 windows in the front wall with the 4 bottom ones being 5'X8' and the upper ones smaller.
No use having a view if'n ya can't see it.
;)2
You can see in this pic what size the windows will be.
The bottom sections where there is plain sheathing are panels that remove to install the windows. The upper ones are just open in this pic.

Drifter thank you for the windows explanation,I assume the custom windows are high efficiency so you will not loose to much heat during the winter. Very nice photos was there a dog sled race on Great Slave or just local mushers out training/exercising their dogs. Also what is a komatek possibly some type of sled ?

You had a busy weekend Dave looks like the Komatik handled the wood transporting/hauling job with ease. How much snow do you still have on the ground?
