Would anyone want to do a NY state wide iceshanty year long tournament? Biggest fish in several species. Make it an annual thing. We could have "NYS Iceshanty Pike Champion 2012-2013" and so on... For all different fish? Just thought this would be cool.

I would have to get with admin to get some fancy editting buttons and a child board like Maine.

I see 3 Maine mods working on their tourney..I think we should also have at least 3 helping with the tourney. More eyes and with 3 people mod'ing the tourney were will always be a 2 - 1 vote on decisions, like a tourney committee.

I think that less is better and easier to keep track of.
I also so that they have best photo categories too, Shanty, Flag, Sunset/rise, etc. what are ya'lls thoughts?

i dont recommend a musky category, i dont like encouraging people to target them through the ice plus there arnt muskies for a lot of people to have access too. Just saying!
I think keep it simple, I like the first list of fish options, especially for the first year.

I too like the "Lucky 7" categories. I could also be a mod, I'll be on here most the time, most days from now through March (except while fishing). @)

OK... I got the "go" with this.... Northernnyice and Fish-N-Adventures will be in charge... So get together....Finders Keepers can be involved also... I will be keeping my eye on this to make sure it is held to the rules.... This will be for bragging rights only.. No prizes allowed... Not necessary to get a list of entries (unless you want) but make a printable NY only tourney card.. You guys wanted it, so get the ball rolling... Good luck...

I work on a computer so if any help is needed I will be around. This is going to be fun. I would stick with a small species list. Make it simple and fun.

Okay so the lucky 7, plus brookies. That is agreed upon. I'm waiting to hear back from Fish-n-adventures about a set of rules. Then we will start to design a Tourny card!

I would drop the bass category since in NY you are not supposed to target bass since they are out of season so that would limit people purposely targeting them and put brook trout in their place....
P.S. not to boost my ego or anything but love seeing the Ny banner I made under a lot of peoples posts!

Yes you can but you are supposed to use artificial lures and 99% of the time if you are using tip-ups you're not using artificial lures... just giving my .02 don't want to see someone get a ticket from the DEC officers who don't care what the reason is they will write the ticket anyway

Now for the ISNY only tourney card, thoughts ?
I think it should be simple with type only, not any pictures because of person printers being color or black/white.
Put the IS logo and an outline of NY state with something like, " 1st annual I.S.N.Y. Tournament " on it.
OR, just use the current 2013 IS tourney card, which will be the easiest. This way you won't need to have both cards on you if you are in the IS tourney.

Only thing else to think about, maybe changing walleye for pickerel, only because, pickerel are everywhere and I don't think most NY'ers care about backgrounds on pickerel waters but walleye waters and backgrounds are of a different thing. ??
Or swap brook trout for pickerel ??

Anglers will be targeting walleye during the I.P.A. events too, so I would keep them in the running. So are we talking one winner takes all the glory in each category, or top 3 for each, or... Since we're talking about bragging rights, I'm leaning towards a winner takes all, but have the top 10 listed on the site, or something like that. Thoughts??

What aobut brook trout swap for pickerel?
Leaderboard of top 3, maybe 1st half and 2nd half but keep an overall top 3 and winner top 1st place per catagory get the bragging rights and a trophy badge.

I like that. At the end of the Tourny, 1st place will get a trophy badge, in all 7 categories.. And 2nd and 3rd will get "honorable mentions."

great im all for it. the idea of the sodus bay pro-am ISNY get together is a awesome idea if that gets set that way and people are going to be around and want to fish that tourney i can let the bait shops know for that weekend and i can find the cheap motels or rooms avail. over there. let me know im game for helping.

i think the first species should be perch. the perch holes freeze first. lakers should be last cause those lakes can take a while to freeze

All species will open same time, so you will be able to get your perch first, and then your lakers! You may enter any species of fish on the list, at any time throughout the Tourny.

Key word "K.I.S.S." Keep It Simple Stupid
for the 1st year, we'll keep it as simple as possible and if we get a good turn out we can add more and maybe have our own tourney card, etc.
plus, it's not right to make member having to put a picture in their sig they may not want.
It's a lot easier to just make sure that members have LOCATION - NY to symbolize they are from team NY.
But, it is an idea for next year, I like the NY sigs, I do. ;D

Only my opinion....but I cant believe Brook Trout (NY's state fish) was replaced by a slime dart Pickeral. I would think NYers would rather see pic's of our signature fish on ice rather than Pickerals.

well we see it this way. Pickerel are so caught more and will have much more people catching and posting for our 1st tourney.
I can see brook trout making it on the list for next year, it a working process and we'll change things up for next year.

NYC will count, just wait for the IS tourney cards to be avalible on Jan. 1st and you can enter both tourneys, that is if you sign up for the IS tourney. No sign up for the NY only tourney, just need to have NY in your profile to show you live in New York. Can't wait to see some fish. :tipup:

I definitely deserved that shot. Honeymoon is over up here bro! She can sleep all weekend for all I care. I'll be fishing hard with you guys til the 2nd week in Feb. My time will be extremely limited for the 2nd half of the season.

im usually on the ice early i know of a couple places that always freeze early heck i had my truck on the ice last year before alot of people made it out one of those spots i walked on out 20 feet before getting wet lol with the temps not above freezing in that area im going to try to get on it saturday

It's a great idea. Photos next to a ruler would help those who think an 8" pike weighs 35lbs., you know the type of angler I'm talking about. Their stories are very riveting until you find that 35lbs can be held in the palm of your hand. Overall I love the idea and would encourage all those with the competative spirit to weigh in on this subject and finr tune it to be FUN.

too funny bart, like I said for roundlakeNY, I'll take tourney cards made out of crayons, that comes with a 3 fish limit, lol.
It's all for fun guys, so if you don't have a printer, make a copy of one of the IS tourney cards, but it must be make with crayons. ;D

Went out with my kiddo. Caught a bunch of gills sunnies an crappie. A few close to challenging the leaders but forgot the tape measure ugh!

All you need to do is put your "NY" location into your profile.
And if your son is a member here too, have him fill out his location to include "NY" in it.
Print out the main Ice Shanty tourney card and follow the rules.

MARCH is here and the last month of the ISNY Brag'n Tourney.
Remember, Northern Pike and Walleye close 3/15/13 so get'em in.
And with a new month, you can post up new fish to get on the monthly leader board, but the Overall Leader Board is the one that counts in the end.

YES, I'm displaying a monthly leaderboard as well, Jan., Feb., and even March for 15 days.
It lets us see per month how and when the fish get caught and shared with each other. ;D

there are other sites out there but I only use photobucket and know of only photobucket.
Get a photobucket account, change your upload setting to the smaller option and photobucket will resize your photo when you upload it so it doesn't take up as much space. All you have to do is upload your pictures from your computer to photobucket, then click on the tag info for forums and cut and paste that code into your post.

it did, an di did it...just realized its hard to read the tape measure. the 1st pike was 27 inches and the 2nd was 31 1/2 inches

New timer here would like to go on Oneida lake for some perch and walleye. I've been to big bay on Sunday no luck? where on the south shore can I go to give a try. Thanks for the help
