Did some maths using crude formulas I found on another thread. Over a 3 day stretch, in an ideal world and small ponds/lakes that are ready to freeze...and the weather forecast for me is spot on at the time of this post.....we'll be making an average of 1.41"/hour over those 3 days. So in the real world...it's probably closer to .5"/hour or .25"/h. And of course...every lake is different. We should still get fishable ice...maybe...possibly ...I hope. Big lakes still have awhile yet. Have a feeling small waters will get hit hard

First Adkrs I'm with you (and everyone else on here) in anticipation of getting some ice and getting on it. Not sure what chart you were reading but making ice at 1.41"/hr. is probably not what that chart implies as that would be about 3' a day!! But you are right in that on a recently skimmed body of water you can put a few inches a day unto it if temps stay below say 20F as long as there is no snow to insulate it. So let's all hold that good thought and hopefully be SAFELY on some ice soon which you Dakers will of course be the first with fishable ice.  Cya..

I agree completely. So many factors with ice making. Thicker it gets, slower it gets. Add snow and wind. Depth of the lake. Crude formulas designed for ice deeprived addicts who need their fix :p
