Tip-up flag lights
« on: Dec 22, 2013, 05:33 PM »
Have any of you ever had any luck with the clip-on lights for tip-up flags?  I've heard mixed reviews, and I'd like to know if any of you have brand recommendations.

I don't do a ton of night tip up fishing but for the times I do, the cheap frabill Lil" shiner light works fine for me.

If you mean the little guys that clipped onto the flag, I used them years ago, had a little lithtum battery I believe. I didn't care for mine. I still have the old 2 AA tube type lights with mercury switches, and a half dozen Lake Gogebic tip up lights.

I use these with a few rubber bands to mount to the tipup. They work great are easy to use and so far they have lasted...

I also as a back up have wrapped silver reflective tape around the top of the mast and a mini flag of red reflective tape just below the flag. I shine a light over the spread, I easily see every trap and if the red is over the silver, its time to go get the fish, red below the silver, back to jigging! Cheap, works very well.

A cheap audio alarm will work just as good, they are used on windows and are sold in dollar stores.

When we are using 5-10 tip-ups at night, we will use the alarms and the flashing lights. When we're sleeping on the lake those alarms will wake us up from 70 yds.

By far the best tip up lights I have ever seen.  They will tell you what's going on with the bait even if you are half way across the lake!

take the little lights kids put on their tires for bikes, mount on tip of flag post. flag goes up causes movement and then lights come on......granted not long term lights but good enough to see if setting outside and cheap/light weight.
