Harvested yellow perch
« on: Jan 24, 2022, 10:03 AM »
Went to smallmouth lake and couldn’t catch any
Put the sonar in and jigged the perch in
We Let the small ones  go to grow . Most fish 10-13.5” harvested
Probably close 100 fish caught. Guys next to us doubled that

Just for the sake of argument, was it a large body of water?
You are well within your rights to harvest them, but if that pond/lake is small there might be a "shortage" of perch if all the larger fish are removed. Not a complaint, just an observation.

Luckily perch are notorious for being accomplished breeders, and the numbers should sustain harvesting.
On the plus side, if the perch have "overpopulated" that waterway, that could account for lack of bass.
Harvesting perch (and sunfish) will do wonders for the bass population if the fry aren't eaten by numerous panfish.

Could be a win-win scenario, but it will take years to see if that happens.

In any case, it looks like you got some filleting and frying to do! ;D

you just have to have a negative perspective on everything dont you?  Can't just say congrats on a good fishing day who cares how big the lake was. I grew up on a small pond 40 acres. The schools of perch I saw were thousands deep and would take alot of fishermen to put a dent in them. Last year and year before you pissed and whined about droughts. Always something thing to complain about Karen.
