What is your opinions? Is this warm up and rain gonna make the season short this year or will we be back out there doing what we love. I really hope it is not over. I finally talked my father back into ice fishing again this season and our schedules have not been able to mash up. It has been over 12 years since he has been on the ice. Would really love to get him on some fish!!!

Stick, I don't know about McKean County, but I expect the ice to be OK here in NEPA, particularly, Susquehanna, Wayne, and northern Pike counties as well as other counties in the northern latitude. Should have a report after Saturday. Hope you and your dad get out together. Special times.
-
Thanks, I am more worried about the edges. The ice was a pretty solid 8" Tuesday on the Kinzua res, but the edges were getting sloppy. It doesn't help that the water level keeps changing so the ice keeps shifting.
-
In SW pa, it’s over😖
-
dont know, time will tell? its crazy how warm it is right now and thunder boomers on the menu today, the sun, rain, wind and rising water temps all against us?
GOD BLESS

SW/SC Pa I'm worried it's over I'm going to do some looking tomorrow but more rain coming in tonight. Probably have to make a few runs up north before the end of the month.
-
I think we're toast here in SC.........could have handled the warm couple days if we followed it with a good cold wave but not with the rain and warm temps. Pretty sad. I remember conventional school of thought 40 years ago being first ice and last ice was the best action. That used to mean first week of January through first week of March. Now first and last ice are 7 days apart.
-
I got to go out 2 weekends in a row, that's a typical season on sw pa.
-
Might well be over for the Southeast, however I just looked at the long term for Mt. Pocono and the call is for ice making weather right into March starting Sat. Bear in mind that is just a guess by so called experts.
-
It's over! Get out the boat and kayak.

When did the Krauts bomb Pearl Harbor??? :o
Fish the PAK tonight before the rain arrived. A good solid 12in's at Sterling Marine but the shoreline is taking a beating. Once the cold snap hits the shoreline will improve.
the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?????????????????????????????????? LOL FT
-
Man that’s a classic speech from Animal House. Everyone knows that
-
Farm pond in Luzerne down to 6” today. The edges are still solid but it needs to get cold fast.
-
It's a German joke. Cat. He is a army ranger so I know he knows history of war like when the French fought the Indians. In 1812. Oh ya this season has a fork in it. Unless you go north of the border
-
definitely not over.

It's never over till the fat lady sings........ she's on stage.... I remember we had ice before Christmas for a week them it melted and came back in March. Yea March I fish a couple days before Christmas and 3 days the first week of March. This ice fishing getting to iffy in western pa. Unfortunately ice fishing may become long journeys to far away waters. Devil's lake anyone?
-
The cold temps coming up starting tonight here in the Northeast will tighten the ice back up.
-
Willow bay....
has 30' of open water at the boat launch.
Sugar bay...
Open water all the way past the first cove
Dunkles corners....
20' of open water at the boat launch.
Wolf run marina....
Open water half way out the docks 4" at the end of the docks but does not look like its very safe.
Be careful guys if any tries going out.

Not sure if people are familiar with the Uncle John's Creek cam on elk Creek in Erie. Well it went from high flowing muddy water to an iced up creek still flowing pretty good. That was just over night. Ice forming that fast on flowing water is keeping my hope up that these lake will lock up nice and tight quickly. Sure we'll be fine for a while
-
I may have to drive but the Pocono Plateau should have ice well into March if the predicted temps are close to accurate.
-
Drove to 3 local lakes here in berks/chester co. Today. They are all toast.
-
7° here this morning
-
Fished a small pond in Gibson, Pa yesterday. 8" of good ice. Wind was brutal! Even jigging was difficult as wind would blow the line out of the hole. I know why guys use hubs and flip overs, but I like being out in it. But wind like that is a bit much. Today is a perfect day. Wish I got out.
-
With all the reports of candled ice, Honeycombed ice & talk of big bubbles. I think it's over for me. Falling thru 4 years ago was not something. I am in any rush to experience again. I want to go in the worst way ::)
-
Fasten some 2x12’s about 8 foot long to your boots. You have to spread your weight out. Or maybe these⛷⛷⛷
-
oh no its over! guess ill fish in the toilet
-
The fat lady ain't singing yet but she is humming and shaking a leg. Being retired it has been a fun year so far but hope it isn't over yet.
-
Still have pretty ok is in most of luzerene county, extended forecast looks like it’ll hold and maybe even grow a bit.
-
Well has this thread finally come true? I'd like to think not so where is there still some reasonable hardwater to fish in PA? I was hoping to get one more weekend out this year!
-
I plan to be fishing well into March in NEPA! ;)
I was fishing Lower Lake at Promised Land on Tuesday nite. It was 18* and ice was solid all the way to shore. Didn’t measure, but had to be 10”.
-
It depends on the lake. Alot of the NEPA, Tioga County, and higher elevation lakes should survive for awhile yet, while some of the flood control reservoirs may not.
-
Was on the ice Tuesday. Lets hope I can get out again.
-
Sunday had to have plank bridge toget on decent ice. 3.5-maybe 4" ice. Just not very comfy on that. Is it over? No but your are taking a gamble now. How many times the ice got beat on and rain and runoff. Not trying to swim again
-
Mizz has 8" solid clear ice, fished Tuesday.

Hey Capt you need an Erie stamp to fish the bay?
-
Yes
-
Its most likely over for me. Unless I find someone to make a road trip with up north. I still can go to tusk or chunk by myself. But have not really caught anything worth the 55 mile drive. At either lake this ice season. I have been fishing open water from shore & in my boat. Been catching some nice gills & a few crappies. I do miss being on the ice. Jigging up suspended crappies with my vex. But Im getting plenty of action & fish to eat. Open water fishing :icefish:
-
Yes
Thanks I haven't been the since I was a kid. Figured so but wasn't sure if it was just for steelhead.
-
not over yet in Wayne county. Fished Prompton yesterday. Ice was over a foot. I have a hand auger and it took around 40 cranks to cut through... didn't drill very many holes.
-
It definitely wasn't over yesterday when that front roared through. The fish were on fire.
-
It seems like its over or almost over for alot of us. Reading alot of report's. It seems like the ice on alot of lakes is detieourating rather quickly. Or its not the greatest ice. I am probably done. Unless I find someone to make a road trip with. :'(
-
i was up on Shohola Saturday ice was 12 inches, first boat ramp could walk right on. Would like to make another trip this weekend but ice conditions could be bad from the big winds. If anybody has any info on the conditions it would greatly be appreciated thanks.
-
I was in Wyoming county Saturday had 15 inches of ice. Would think it's not over for a couple of weeks. Shola should be fine.
-
it would be over for me if i didnt get the fish smell otta the back of the super suv

with next weeks forecast for the start of the month to be very cold, I would suspect the ice (at least in the northern lakes ) might make it until the end of March

I agree with you Mr. Net.
-
Still not over!
-
IN NEPA we might have another week of good ice and that will be it.
